Hi i am just wondering if anyone has had a similar problem. i drive a mark1 leon cupra. recently the engine has been choking. i took it for service had the oil plugs and filter changed as that was due. my mechanic thinks its probably the trottle which maybe full of dirt. im going tomorrow to get that cleaned. when its idel the engine was reving itself between 600 and 1100 rpm. the needle was flicking and engine was choking.
but if any1 has any other suggestions or has experienced similar problem please drop me a reply.

many thanks

could be the throttle body sticking due to dirt. typical behaviour.

there are a few things that can cause rough idle. maf sensor is a common one. if you unplug it and the car suddenly idles perfect you most likey need a new one.

is it consistant or only when cold? has it progressivly got worse or just occured?

its started last thursday when engine oil light came on. was due a service so got that done straight away. mechanic said ther no other signs of engine damage or problems. has been getting bit worse. havent not been driving it much since, as dont want 2 cause a new problem. il check the sensor and see what that does when i go 2moro.
thanks for help

i went to my mechanic connected the computer to see why the EM light was on. came up with CO2 sensor, battery low, throttle sensor and petrol rich sensor. the reason why i think the co2 and oil rich sensor came on is due to fact the car is remapped to 230bhp and the computer is thinking the car needs more petrol all the time. i had the throttle cleaned it wasnt to dirty, the flow was much better and checked the computer again and it was fine. all clear...

Hi! I noticed you seem to know a bit about the throttle body. I have had simillar problems (leon mk1) - i.e. engine alternating tickover between 500 and 1200 rpm. Also the response comes and goe s- sudden boosts of power after the throttle is pressed for a few seconds. Would I be able to access the MAF and throttle body to clean it by taking the air filer off? I'd say that that's all it needs.

Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks.

it is a very simple problem to fix. the throttle is probably blocked with carbon. it is simple to undo. once you have removed the throttle simple use a cloth or brush to clean the carbon of. use electrical cleaner to spray it clean. do it on both sides. and see if the valve is stopping anywhere. onces it clean just replace it and it should work fine...:funk:

Hi, you can access both maf and throttle body, the maf is connected to the air filter, its a cylinder shape sensor, not hard to miss, cleaning i believe is done with electrical fluid and either a sealable plastic bag,or container where you would want to immerse the maf in the fluid.Probably leave it for about an hour, but im guessing you could leave it for any amount of time after around 15mins.Make sure you dry the maf thoroughly before reconnecting!!!!!!!!1. The throttle body is located on the other side of the engine bay, front left in front of drivers side light unit.I believe its connected to the silver charge pipe in the front-so left side if looking at engine.I think there are 4 or 6 screws holding it in,unscrew, take out tb and use electrical fluid to wipe any dirt or anything obstructing the movement of the butterfly flap.OH make sure you disconnect your battery(neg terminal) and do an ecu reset, as you would want to let the engine learn the new style of the engine performance and hopefully after this would be greatly improved.MAFS are a pain in the arse,I had to replace 3 in my leon and have cleaned tb once. All the best!

p.s.have you checked if your temp sensor is fine? This can go wrong and either take ages to warm car up, or give starting problems believe it or not!
