Well I've got 8 inches so I dont need a fast car....

And I was only commenting on the fact that he wanted a 1.4 petrol so thought I'd add a derv would be better than the 1.4......

The one thing that screams out from all that... is you really need to change insurance companies! I don't know your age or postcode so can't compare my insurance to you, but any company that charges £200 to cover a remap is to be avoided IMO

My insurance is £750 and I'm 23 with a ban on my licence. A remap will cost me.... £25 admin fee. That's it.
When I had my Celica with the same insurance company, body work and a nitrous install (75bhp shot) would cost an extra £95. So it seems as though your Derv is costing a heck of a lot to insure?.

Ok well i'm insured as i say like for like and at the age of 24 with 9 points on my licence on top of living in a not so secure area, it doesnt help, but the main thing as i said is LIKE FOR LIKE insurance, my reciepts for my car go into the range of near 12k so far, you may sit there and laugh at that, but thats another convo completey i had long commute to and from my partner a year ago, but since then thats changed and i dont do that many miles at all, but by that time the modding had got to full swing and chopping for a Cupra R was a loss not a gain and hey I like to be different...
As for the insurance raise, thats because i ACTUALLY claim the full extent of the remap, e.g. 28% increase in bhp, this more than what insurance companys have stored in there databases concerning remaps, if you ask most insurance companys remap is only 10% raise in bhp... if this is so, if found out that remap result is different and you knew, your out of luck if your car is smashed up... yeah there is talk about insurance company dont check, but theres also talk that they read forums about thier clients and cars..

As for performance, you're comparing a modified car to a standard car when you say:

Do you think that would still be the case if I spent the same amount of money modifying my LCR? If I applied similar mod's to my LCR as you have to your Cupra TDi then it would be me showing you a clean pair of heels. You simply can't compare heavily modified to standard.

You mention tax... how much do you pay per-year? It's £190 I think for the LCR, give or take a pound or two. The diesel would have to be seriously cheaper to cover the differences in servicing.

I'm lucky in that I only do around 13-15k per year so there is little to be gained from going Derv. If I did more mileage, I'd have no option to change to Derv.

As you said, yes i cant compare the modded against standard, but then you cant compare a 15k with a near 19k car...

Tax...£105 for the year mate... and servicing... £100 for the annual!

Whats yours like £190 for you tax...£150 for your service?

By the way no offence to be taken there.. nor my fly swatter is bigger than yours, just like to have a banter

Oh for sure, it's all banter, it's what makes forums like this interesting! Everybody does things to suit them, that's what car purchases and modifying is all about :)

Re insurance and remaps... I'm insure with Greenlight who cover everything like-for-like and are fully clued up when it comes to remaps and most other mods, I've been very impressed so far. Greenlight actually post on this forum too so are fully aware of what's what when it comes to modifications :)

Servicing costs for the LCR are around £100 for the annual and double or more or the major services. For instance, my 40k service (the first really big one) is costing me £230, it would be less if I wasn't fussy about using the best, long life oil. The next service is a fluid and filter change, so less than half that cost luckily.

Out of interest, who are you insured with?

Yeah well i was same about thinking insurance companys covering remaps till i read the small print on a friends insurance documents and it had a section covering power modifications and classes of remap, e.g. remap-2-10%, 11-25%, and 25% above... and well each had there own bracket they priced onto his policy. Green light may be different i dont know, worth checking thou?

I'm insured thou Highways at the mo, as the only company i found like for like cover on the A4 sized sheet of modifications i have done to my TDi....
