I'm trying to find some opinions on moving on from a mk1 leon 1pd30 se to a mk2 Leon pd140. I am hearing a lot that the 2.0 isn't all its cracked up to be and that infact the 2.0 isn't really a great improvement at all and many perferr the pd130. Any opinions or information on the topic would be great.thanks

A 10bhp increase? What's the weight difference? I doubt you will experience much of a difference. However in saying that there's not much wrong with the pd140 it's a good engine and if you wanted something similar then go for it, however if you wanted an improvement then can't you get an FR be it either a mk1 or 2?

insurance is a issue for me as i cant even get a quote on the pd150 .. im guessing the tuning capabilities of each are roughly the same as they seem to share the same turbo? because i played with my engine a little .. not hybrid as didnt get chance but done the intake. exhaust. turbo pipe. pancake. intercooler. remap etc.

Well I have a 1.9tdi pd160 ibiza Cupra tdi same engine as the pd130 basicly quite a nice car pulls well etc

But I also own a 2.0tdi pd140 audi a3 and as much as ther both pd engines the 2.0l s have more torque standerd plus there slightly set up diffrent but any way I find the 2.0l pd140 a lot smoother and it's even quiter than my 1.9 Pd160.

I was quite inpressed with the 2.0l tdi when I test drove it and the more I have used it the more it's inpressed me. In fact it pulls better than pd160 in the higher gears ie from 60+ in 6th gear will pull better than my pd160.

Also it's a very very tunable engine if u wanted to :)

once mapped they seem pretty similar probably down to the same turbo but im guessing its the extra valves that help it up the top end .. i dont know if ill miss the big lump of torque that kicks you up the arse in my pd130 .. but i suppose the power will be more smoother invthe pd140 .. ahh swings and roundabouts !! .. what would you do. stay with the faithful i know loads about or go for something new .. starting the whole learning process again.? ... by the way is your a3 mapped up or fettled with in any way ?

Na a3 is standerd but my slef I'd make the move if your wanting something a little diffrent and to behonest in engine wise there's not really much diffrance to what u all ready know.

I have been overly happy with my pd140 and would defo recommend one

I'm in the same position with the wife's car.
Pd130 mk1 leon and looked at mk5 golf pd140 and mk2 leon pd140
We've decided to keep the leon just now.
Pd140 have problems with porous heads etc until 06-56 reg and they seem extremely common for turbo vanes sticking too.
The pd130 lump is pretty much bomb proof and known to do mega miles.

yeah i do fancy something new but i got the whole cupra r kit waiting to go on until that stupid bat hit me up the arse .. lol .. yeah marshall ive heard of these problems too . been looking at the dsg also but worried about the horror stories :( .. and bomb proof isnt the word for it .. my pd130 had 150hp standard on the dyno before i mapped it and that was at 170 000 !!! its now on 190 000 and runs sweet as a nut :)

I made the jump. ASZ engine which was remapped. To the PD170. Fuel economy isn't great at all, yes it does rev a lot freely than the ASZ. They do have a few problems also.

But the power delivery is smoother all the way to the redline, revs easily and doesn't feel like it struggled higher up the RPM.
