Tesco momentum 99

Have you tried it ?, I recently switched from shell fuel save, my car 14 reg 1.2 with only 1600 miles is getting an extra 2 mpg & car run's smoother.
However our other car ibiza 1.2 63 reg with 6000 miles is getting an extra 3 mpg, but from 1800rpm it pulls like a train, the difference is amazing, hopefully once leon has loosened up will be the same.
I would try V power nitro but its a 8 ppl premium !!
Im using brim to brim to calculate mpg, and have no association with tesco other than really happy with momentum 99.

I've always found V-Power better from a performance point of view, research backs that up when you look at its true resistance to ignition.

Can't say i've ever paid any attention to fuel economy though when my average is in the teen's.

If you're happy with it then stick with it. No harm in trying a tank of the V-Power though to see if it's worth the extra premium

Placebo effect probably, I wouldn't have thought shoving 99 in would make any difference on that engine, not that noticeable anyway.

Quite possible - slight changes to driving style (even traffic conditions) can easily affect fuel economy by that much (and more)

In terms of performance, it all comes down to the ECU and whether it has the ability to adjust if it sees a higher octane fuel. Some remaps can map specifically for a certain minimum octane rating.

I used to be an MPG-fiend on my old TDI but with the TSI I just drive it - I've seen as high as 46mpg (60-65mph tired journey) and as low as 21mpg (a bad night's commute). Journeys vary so much even by the hour that any difference in fuel consumption caused by a differing octane rating IMO could only be ascertained in a wind-tunnel type environment with a set "journey" made each time.

The older 1.6FSI engine IIRC was stickered for minimum 98RON, for the above reason I believe (though I could be wrong).

I myself would try Momentum but the nearest Tesco to me that stocks it is a 20 mile round trip! Annoyingly I work next to one that doesn't do it!

always use v power but did try tesco 99 octane but could not notice any difference in performance at all in my 1.8 TSI

Ive always found V power runs better than Tesco 99 at least on a mapped car.

I use Tesco standard diesel on a regular basis and seems ok to me.
The last three tanks returned 460 miles each on the same routes to and from work.
Have not tried the Tesco 99 ron fuel yet.

Used V power diesel which cost £5 more for a full tank and returned 460 miles.
Have just used up my second tank of V power diesel with exactly the same trips as above and this tank full returned 480 miles

Filled up with Sainsburys diesel today which I use sometimes and I had a voucher for 10p off a litre so can't turn my nose up at £1.26 compared to the £1.48 for the V power.

I use Momentum 99 or Shell V-Power Nitro+ in my 2010 Leon Cupra R, its mapped by APR using a 98ron map.

Differences i found:
Momentum99 leaves more "soot" on the boot (yes its a petrol)
Momentum99 is atleast 10p cheaper a 1L

mpg wise roughly the same, I once tried BP Ultimate 97 and car ran rubbish on it.

As much as I've tried to notice a difference between V-Power Nitro+ and Tesco 99 I just can't, so for me I'll stick with Tesco 99 being that it's loads cheaper per litre.

I think in most cases when people try another fuel hoping to see an improvement they have already decided that because they've spent more on a "Premium" fuel their car is running better as a result.

I know there have been some tests conducted (most famously 5th Gear) showed something like a 5-7bhp increase using Shell's Vpower over normal juice but that was on completely flushed tanks, most people tend to claim after filling up once they notice night and day differences which I just think is a little bit in their head.

So how much more is tesco 99 over standard tesco unleaded? And how much more is v-power nitro plus over regular shell unleaded? Worth doing some sums on that against how many miles per tank you get and then make a decision.

When driving a fast petrol car, mpg should be the last thing on ya mind lol

if you feel that your car performs better on v power, then use v power, if u don't think theres any difference between that and momentum 99, then use whichever you want!

I use v power because theres a shell petrol station on the way to work and down the road from work, havent ran the car on normal unleaded as V power is better for the engine

I think I ran my old cupra on normal unleaded for a few tanks and then v power and i couldnt tell the difference performance wise!

No idea how much more they are but in honesty I personally don't really care because penny pinching wasn't something in my mind when I bought the car.

I will however not pay the extra for something if I feel it makes no difference whatsoever and in this case for me the extra I'd pay for the Shell Nitro stuff is a waste of money because the cheaper Tesco stuff (that is closer to my house) does exactly the same job.

I use the 99 over the standard juice because it's advised to be run on a minimum of 97 or 98 RON I believe.

Well just been to my local tesco and the momentum is 5ppl more than regular unleaded, so a full 50l tank in the leon will cost you £2.50 more than filling with regular...

Bearing that in mind, and assuming you may get a couple more mpg out of momentum, you'd not be any better or worse off to be fair. But you also know you'd be putting in the stuff the car is designed to run on.

It's an easy one isn't it in that case!
