hello everybody.

I own leon 4wd 20vt 2002 and live in Israel.
i hear sounds of knocks from the engine like a diesel enginge and been told that
it is the tentioner. what are the meanings and the risks of this?

status subject to change
The 20vt has a timing belt rather than a chain, which is something that should be serviced +(changed) dependant on mileage and age.
The tensioner is there to maintain the correct tension for the timing belt.
If this was to fail this could potentially lead to serious damage from the belt failing, jamming, jumping a tooth etc etc.
Its not something you want to leave, you should get this repaired asap.

When was the timing belt last changed?
It wont be cheap, i would recommend that you dont just change the tensioner, it makes sense to do a complete timing belt service change.
