Temperature problem

Recently my cupra 1.8t has developed a temperature problem. On starting from cold the temperature gauge rises to the normal 90 but then it starts to increase to top scale and the high temperature alarm comes on. If I then stop the car but leave it ticking over the temperature gauge returns to 90.

It is a 53 reg plate, I have had the car for 14 months and it has done 24000 miles. As far as I know it is the original water pump

The fans come on when the temperature rises and switch off when it is idling.
When it is idling the temperature is bang on 90

when mine went i was ok in traffic... but once moving at any decent speed the temp rose until the alarm went off.

due to the location of the pump most get there cam belts/tensioners changed at the same time. i got charged 350 the lot which included a metal water pump impellor which wont fail like the plastic stock one.

get it sorted mate as overheating is very bad for your engine.
