Temperature Gauge has gone Mental

Apologies in advance if this is a fairly common repost.

Over the last couple of weeks the temperature gauge in my Leon has gone mental. First it refused to budge of cold (60) then it worked normally for a couple of days before going awol again. Then it will register between 60 (Cold) and 65 (Hot). I know the car is warming up and am guessing at a temp sensor problem

Has anyone any experience of a similar problem, where the sensor is located and a Part No. so I can get one on order fro a SEAT stealer. Is it an easy DIY fix? I'm guessing so.

Any help gratefully received.

Gaz.

If your TEMP SENSOR has packed in your managment light should be on. Ipicked up a replacement sensor from part co for about £15 and sorted the prob out my self, they are quite straight forward to fit

Apologies for the thread resurrection - but a big cheers. Changed to green 4-pin sender (genuine VAG part 059 919 501A, but from GSF - much cheaper). Cost £20 and the job took 20mins including topping the coolant back up. Gauge back to normal - NO EML light ever present and I think the fuel enrichment issue (Only 420 miles on last tank) will be sorted. Will do a mileage check over the next tank (should be 500+). Just for reference car is a 110 1.9Tdi.

Car ran 530 miles on the next tank of Derv. Another tank and the fix will have paid for itself. If this screws up engine Calibration on Petrols as much from an enrichment perspective (common part) then you'll be needing a new Lambda/Cat as well as a temp sensor if you let go. If this problem arises - Get it fixed.

Freks - Do a search on "Green Sensor" on here. There is a comprehensive guide on how to change it with PICS. Definitely DIY.
