Temperature/coolant Beeps at ignition turn on

drove my car this morning, no problems whatsoever. Temp etc all report to be normal.

Sat in my car about 10mins ago to do a vag-com error check and to see if my laptop works alright, and I turn the ignition on (not engine) and about 5-10secs later i get 3 loud beeps - and the temperature/coolant warning light starts flashing.

Could this just be that its reporting to be very cold? I mean, outside it is bitterly cold at the moment - if i start the engine surely it will just warm up? The needle is sitting firmly on 60, the lowest it can go.

VAG-COM reports no errors.

Any ideas? I have looked in the manual and it only mentions about the coolant level being correct, which mine is between the min and max marks.

Advise please. I dont want to start my car and damage it....

i have also had the coolant temp sensor replaced once about 6months ago.... surely it cant be this one again?

Pabs have a search fella, myslef pete (Icecavern) and a few others well i counted 10! have had the exacte same problem! Scared the sh1t out of me and i thought my car was f*cked as that and oil pressure lights are the only ones i worry about.

Think pete called it the oil temp light but im sure a serach for BEEP should throw it up. We couldnt find out the real casue apart from everyone all of a sudden has got it so must be the weather

I'm not clued up on all this VAG-COM stuff but this happend to me a few weeks ago the, temp light beeping at me and staying red. I took it to the seat garage near me and they plug there VAG-COM thingy in and an exhaust senor error came up, turned out that one of the heat senors in the ehaust had come lose. they fixed it there and then... dunno if that helps or not..

well its booked in for the end of next week. My warranty runs out fairly soon so i need to make sure all is ok. At least if they change the tank then they will replace the coolant at the same time

admittedly from the searching i have done it does seem to be a common problem at this time of year - me thinks its a bad design. Chances are i am booked in for a checkup, then they wont be able to find the fault cos the car will have to be driven to the garage and hence it will be warm, and then i will have to book it in several times until they do anything about it

Had mine do this this morning, again i think it's the cold weather that's triggered it. You get the same warning for low coolant level (i.e. not enough water in it) and i too have replaced the coolant sensor. Turned car off, waiting 20 secs, restarted and no warning. Hasn't done it since.

Coolant temp warning

Mine displays exactly the same problems. Especially when its very cold (minus c)
Turn it off and immediately restart it and the problem goes away. - Weird

if u have a search its a common problem.
If you have vag-com see if you get an error. If you do - the temp sensor needs replacing. If you dont get an error - clean the sensor contacts (electrical contacts) and see if this helps - my dealer did this and problem has gone away!.

We may be talking about two separate issues. If the outside temp drops below 4 degrees the dash will beep and the temp flashes in the left hand digital display. This is not a fault, just informing you to drive accordingly.
The red light flashing on the temp gauge is probably a fault, it does come on when it thinks the engine is overheating but more likely to be detecting a low coolant level. Check the coolant level, if its ok you'll need a coolant reservoir, this comes with the level sensor in it. But don't confuse this with the coolant temp sensor, thats another story.

the problem Just4perry describes sounds like the coolant sensor - this has been a problem for a LOT of people in this cold weather...

Had same problem on 2001 leon cupra, for a few weeks.
I used a brush to clean the level sensor in the header tank, problem hasn't been seen again for the last couple of weeks.

I have a Cupra 03 and mine beeped and flashed as I turned the key in the morning. I checked the manual and it says the coolant level should be between min and max, which it is when the engine is cold. I added half a cup worth of coolant and the beep and flashing went away since. I didn't know where the level is sensor otherwise I would have a go at cleaning it.

as far as i know the sensor is the bit going into the tank at the top.......
But yes, you would receive the same beep if coolant was low. My level was fine, but still got the beeps.

i had the same issue replaced the sensor in the coolant line this did help but not a huge amount, it was suggested to me by a mate (skoda mechanic) to fill up the coolant above the max line on the header tank. This has helped alot but it still does it occasionally.
