Temp Sensor + sticky throttle.

Good morning all.

I have a 1999 v5 150. Recently the temperature gauge has been very erratic, sometimes reading 90, sometimes 60, sometimes 0 and sometimes in between.

The water level in the filler tank is constant, so no leaks anywhere.

I have purchased a new temperature sensor (sender?), but for the life of me can't find where it's fitted. I have searched the forums but the only clear images I can find are for 1.6 or 1.8 Ibiza's or Leon's.

Is it installed into the engine block, about 4 or 5 inches to the right of the oil dipstick? That's the only place I've seen something that looks similar?

Also, the throttle seems to stick slightly, could this be related the problem above, or more likely a MAF problem?

Many thanks in advance for any help.

Scott.

Hiya,

It is So So easy to do.:D

Disconnect sensor
Remove mental C clip which holds sensor in place
Jiggle and gently twist the sensor until it becomes free
Pull the sensor out and remove the rubber O ring (the faster you do this the less coolant you will lose).
Insert new sensor with new rubber seal
Insert C clip
Attach lead
Move to expansion tank and top up coolant

I know i don't need to say this but, ONLY DO THIS ON A COLD ENGINE.

All in all a 5 minute job.

Thanks for your reply.

From searching the forums I've learnt how to replace it, I just can't find it!!

Thanks

That would be really helpful, thank you.

However, are you sure the sensor on your 1.8 is in the same place as the sensor on my 2.3?

Thanks
Scott

<bump>

Thanks for all of the views so far, unfortunately I still can't find where the temp sensor is on a 2.3 V5 (1999)

If anybody can help I'd be very grateful.

As mentioned previously,

"Is it installed into the engine block, about 4 or 5 inches to the right of the oil dipstick? That's the only place I've seen something that looks similar?"

Thanks again.

Scott.
