hey,

drove my car to work this morning and noticed the temp guage is still on 0, is this a common fault on 1.4 mpi's ? its A 17mile trip and i was doing 70-80 most of the way. not just a 3 min trip so it should have time to warm up

Faulty sensor perhaps?

could this have and other implications on my car?

like fans not cutting in when theyre supposed to, choke operation ect..

thanks in advance

you should drive it around givin it some welly and see if you get a temp reading at all! if not its defo fooked. Apart from the obvious not sure if its a general fault or not

lol you dont need to give the car some stick, most likely your sensor is naffed, or thermostat or wiring issue.

Just get it on vagcom to check and correct accordingly.

Common fault on any Ibiza... sensor will cost you ~£20 from the dealer and it can be changed by yourself pretty easily. Had it go on my 1.4, probllem is when it goes the ECU doesnt get a temp reading and it still thinks the car's cold so engauges the choke.

If it isn't the temp sender couldn't it be the thermostat stuck open if the engine is staying cold !!

i've been watching it, it does get a reading sometimes and reads right then 3 minutes later on the same journey it will be reading as cold again, i know my engine is getting hot, so i'm kinda swayed towards faulty wires or connection somewhere.

Also had the bonnet up last night after driving home, after the guage had been on and off i wanted to see if the fans were kicking in, and they did, so i am tempted to think that the ECU knows its hot, so dont think the choke will be staying on, havnt noticed if it is anyways.

gonna see my dad 2night let him have a look. he's a mechanic of 16 years.

ok, the temp guage playing up, which sensor is it because as far as i can tell there is 2 sensors very close together.

I need the one that talks to the temp guage on the dash because its showing as cold all the time.

stalled the car this morning on the way to work pulling out of my street, i'm not sure if that was because i was half asleep or the ECU isnt picking up a temperature therefor not activateing the choke.

anyone hvae a part number for this part? i've been told about £20 from steelers thanks to Craig!

advice appreciated,

ps... dad didnt know which one it was either.

thanks - i'll take a pic when i get in and circle the two sensors i'm looking at then let the pro's tell me which one to pull out and get a new part :)

Normally one with 1 wire going to it will be the temp sender !! but yeah take a picture and post it up !!

Same thing happened on my cupra. the needle would sit at cold then just shoot up to 90. then more often than not go back down. I went to the garage and they said it could be an airlock in the radiator, squeezed the pipe and loads of bubbles came up. this sorted it. You might as well try it!

just don't squeeze too hard and make sure the engines cold!
