Temp gauge not working

Morning guys. Drove to work this morning and my temp gauge needle didn’t move. And 15 mins or so jumped to normal temp and was ok for half an hour then just before work it dropped off again.
it was working fine all weekend. Yesterday afternoon I removed most of the PCV system and fitted a catch can. I’m thinking I have knocked a plug off a senor. Does the temp gauge feed the gauge? I didn’t get an EML light or anything.

I had exactly this same issue when I drove mine on Friday. Not used it for a few weeks till then.
Took it out yesterday and it was fine.

Drove home and the gauge didn’t move at all. One parked up had a play with the wires. Looks like a loose wire I might have knocked. Little wiggle on them and it started working again
