TDi SE 100 Power problems

Hi,

My new Ibiza TDi SE 100 seems to have some turbo issues after running for a while at high speed. I'm very impressed with the performance before then, it really does pull a lot but afterwards it seems that it loses its pull and even struggles a bit on hills etc. It mainly happens when driving on motorways for a bit. Its as if it heats up when going very quickly and so this affects the turbo. If I stop off somewhere for a bit then start off again its fine again.

It's still under 6 months parts and labour warranty, but I was curious as to what could be causing this.

Cheers
Al

After further testing, I can better describe the symptoms as follows:
Turbo is fine if the car is kept sub-70mph, works all the time. Once I speed up to 70+, after about 10 seconds where it zooms along the turbo simply stops working, which is really annoying on hills, and doesn't start working again unless I stop the engine and start again. I don't need to let the engine cool or anything, so it doesn't seem to be temp related.

Any ideas?

Thanks
Aled

VNT vanes sticking I would say - is the car standard or mapped. The symptoms and speeds are exactly as per mine last year.

As far as I know the car is standard, bought it on saturday from a dealer (not Seat).

I dont think its a specific speed that does it, but after going for a while above about 70 the turbo just stops. This morning I was crusing at about 80 uphill on the Motorway and had been for about 20 seconds then it stopped. On the next hill I couldn't get above 60
It's really annoying cos the turbo won't kick in again for the rest of the journey.

Where are you located? Is the car under warranty?

I'm located at Cardiff.
Car isn't under Seat guarantee (52 plate - Jan 2003) but was bought with a 6 month guarantee from Dealer in the form of motorplan premier.
I'll phone the dealer when I get the chance as I'm unsure whether the motorplan covers things that haven't caused the car to break down. If it isn't I'll take it to him and demand he fix it.

On another note, the central locking doesn't work properly either. It locks the driver door and passenger door but not the boot, but won't unlock the passenger door. To properly lock the boot I have to turn the key in the boot. This also means i have to open the door for any passenger. Apart from some feelings of nostalgia this is a right pain.

I would take it straight back. I was quoted £1100 just for the turbo +fitting. OMO all these issues should be fixed under your 3rd party warranty - just insist.

Yeh I've given them a call, I'm gonna take it back to be looked at. Central locking issue might just be user error (doh!), but turbo definetly needs looking at.
Thanks for the help.
