Tdi milage (running in)

How long do people reckon it takes (roughly) to run in a Tdi engine? My car has done 4k miles and my dad's Tdi has done 11k and his is quite a bit quicker than mine at the mo.

ive heard 20k and 30k , when i got mine at 24k it was tight , a few revs soon loosen them up , let it heat up n cool down , n inbetween give it hell,

I did 70ish a while back and got 65mpg, but boy was I bored!

Back to the subject please guys!

So it will take a while for the Tdi motor to run in is the general opinion. But 20k-30k! Blimey!!!

i've heard tht most modern Engines are not in their prime till about 60k.

I think mine reached that at 20k though.

There's an enormous thread on TDI Club about break-in. At least one opinion there is that the engine keeps getting better and better, and that cylinder compressions don't peak until 100,000 miles (yes, a hundred thousand!!!).

i bet someon in the industy said that simly because they want to be able to shift caars with high milage.

i agree with david and have read that too. Its generally considered that the VAT TDI engines are run in and giving there best at about 80-100k, anything up to that they are still being run in.

But generally the milestones for running in early on are 20-30k.

I reckon my engine improved around 50k miles. Goes very nicely now at 66k. Shame about the rattles from the rest of the car
