iv just bought a tdi cupra and having gone round the car when i bought it, i noticed the front brake pads were running a little low. so im after a good set of pads but not too pricey, so has anyone got any recomendations?
people will say DS2500's (££££..)...... however i found out that Mintex are considered to be rather good and i have found them to be really good.... and a lot cheaper
Mintex M1144 or Ferodo DS pads if you want very good low temp response i.e. when stone cold at -2C ambient or DS2500 if you're hard on your brakes & don't mind the pads being a little unresponsive when really cold with better feel when hot. I very much doubt you'd be unhappy with any of those 3 though.
The experience I've had with DS2500 is that until they've had a few light dabs on the brakes from cold with ambient temps around 3C or lower they don't quite have the initial bite & feel slightly wooden compared to when they've warm up a little bit. It may be the levels of servo assistance used on VAG cars, I find VAG brakes feel over assisted, doesn't present this effect due to them lacking the initial progression I'm used to.
when i need brake pads i will get ds2500 pads as ive heard nothing but praise on the forum for these pads with the cupra brake setup. apparntly stopping really well and not so dusty making them an all round winner for me as you cant really put a price tag on somthing that will save your life no point in being cheap when it comes to brakes.
i remember when i first got my car i over anticipated a car pulling out on me think i would have gone through the windscreen if it wasnt for my seat belt lol.
what discs do you have again damien?
with your sintered discs do you find they make a whisping sound when in motion?
as a friend of mine had sintered discs and they made a whisping sound kind of put me off a bit.
Have you tried plain face/Group N or low slot count discs Damoegan? I just ask as on the Panda I use plain faced discs then machine in 3 slots per side of the disc to give the best compromise of gas dispersion, deglazing & effective swept disc/pad surface area. DO NOT just randomly do this, I spent a fair amount of time having discussions with technical advisers about this before a disc went near a milling machine.
