TCS not working?

In my 02 Cupra R, the large TCS button above my radio / trip computer screen doesn't seem to actually do anything?
I press it, no lights come on or go off, I press it again... the same - nothing.
I assume the TCS system is off, as I never feel it cutting power or stopping wheel spin (I can easily chirp the tyres when pulling off etc)

Ideas?

Also, how many of the lights on the dash should come on and then go out when I start the ignition? I get some of them lit, but not all of them - is this right? (they all subsequently go out after a few seconds as I would expect)

Cheers.

When pressed it should come up on the dash with a orange light in the instruments panel. Centre at the bottom.

as long as all the lights go off and stay off your doing ok. Not all will come on.
Some thign like EPC, oil and battery light i think.

the wheels will chirp even with the TCS on, the only way to tell is to see if it will let light them up good and proper, ON PRIVATE LAND WITH OWNERS PERMISSION AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC AND PROPERETY!!!!

Disclaimer out the way, see what happens, but i would asume it would be always on. or maybe the light behind the dash has broken. try playing a bit ON PRIVATE LAND WITH OWNERS PERMISSION AWAY FROM THE PUBLIC AND PROPERETY!!!! and see what happens.

Cant have too many disclaimers theses days.

I'm not being funny but an easy way to check is to start your car rev it and dump the clutch. If it spins then your TCS isn't working. If it nearly stalls then it works. If it works then press the switch and see if they spin up. Could be a fuse, Bulb, Sensor?? I know on other cars Traction control sensor is with the ABS sensor. Does your ABS work??? If it does i doubt the sensor has gone.

Ok, tested it on my private test track...

Started engine - built some revs, dumped the clutch... Lots of wheel spin and screeching.

Pressed the TCS button - built some revs, dumped the clutch... Lots of wheel spin and screeching.

At no time does the TSC pilot light come on (even when starting the engine)
ABS and EPC lights come on for a few seconds when the car is first started, but then go off as they should.
Reading the user manual, it says that the ABS, EPC and TCS are all related, and if one is faulty, then all the related lights should come on and stay on.
I'm fairly sure my ABS is working ok, although I haven't had chance to test it properly...

So it seems that my TCS isn't working at all, nor is the related light... Strange don't you think? Especially as it says that if there is a fault, then the corresponding light should come on and stay on...

Time to vagcom?

Yes definately.

Check the ABS. My mate has a Zetec S and his ABS / Traction Control sensors went and for that they were nearly 200 quid!!!!

You need to check the ABS.

I'd say if the ABS works then the sensors are fine. And it'll probably just be the TCS switch that is F*cked.

If not matter how hard you stamp on the middle peddle the ABS doesn't kick in then i'd say it's the sensors.

You should be able to test abs at about 30mph

I've got vag-com on the laptop adam, no point paying someone for the priveledge!

I've got to replace the ABS sensor on my wifes car - they're about £23 or so

fault code scan identifies which is faulty easily
