Tailgate warning light

I just put a new H7 headlamp bulb in the front of my leon and topped up the washer fluid. When I got in the car to drive away the "tailgate open" warning light came on the dash. I got out and checked all doors and boot but they are all slammed shut.

It wont go off. But it will go off if I turn on the cars lights?

I have fiddled around with all the wires that I could have knocked changing the headlamp but cant see how this could have caused the problem or how i can get rid of the warning light.

Any ideas?

Thanks.

Did you top the washer fluid because it was really low?, check your boot carpets or under the boot trim for any excess damp/washer fluid. Your wiper hose may have popped off the rear wiper motor and the leaking fluid has gone into your boot lock and shorted out the sensor for the boot closure light. More common than you think. If your lucky the hose has popped off near the motor behind the boot trim, if not then it may have popped off somewhere along it's route which will be a pain to locate.

I thought that might be the case but the rear washer jet still works as normal. It was low cos I have been using it a lot recently so dont suspect leaking.

Its more like a short some where or something because I have found that the light is on, but its not on very bright. If I have the boot open with the car running the light comes on properly - ie really bright, but as soon as I close the boot it goes back to being a bit dim. Its a bit like when on old cars you have a bad earth and your brake light might come on when you use the indicator or something. Putting the front lights on stops the fault and the bulb turns off.

I think I must have knocked something when changing the headlight bulb. I will have a look tomorrow and see if I can see something.
Thanks

Hi. I know it's been a long time since you posted your 'glowing tailgate dash light' but did you ever fix it? My '05' FR has just started doing exactly the same. Dull glow which dissappers when lights are turned on. Funnily mine goes out when I use the car in the morning. Pretty sure it's that which is also causing the alarm to trigger! Not fun!! Any ideas would be much appreciated.

Mine has just started. Reckon it could be dash board related as tailgate end seems fine with boot light working as it should. Maybe related to the cold weather & condensation etc in a plug. Thanks for reply anyway.

Anyone got to the bottom of this?? My 05 plate FR+ has just started doing this!!

Luckily the alarm siren doesn't work so just the indicators keep flashing otherwise neighbours would be a bit pi$$ed!!! How can i disarm it so they don't flash?

Also yesterday the diagnosis/ pollen warning light came on for 3 journeys then went off again???!!!!!

Mine stopped glowing when the really cold weather went. Very odd. Assume it must have been either a bad earth or moisture / condensation in a joint somewhere. Must admit lost faith in the car & hopefully solved the problem by selling it & getting a Golf Gti! The build quality seems loads better......
