Tailgate Central Locking Fault

The tailgate lock on my 02 130 Sport is quite random as to whether it responds with the central locking or not.

It frequently doesn't lock so I have to check it every time I leave the car which is a nuisance. Very occasionally it doesn't unlock

Anyone else have this problem? Is it common or just mine?

well it could be a faulty motor or just a sticky lock mechinism

for info on removing the tailgate trim if you look at rear wiper sticky it should help

first thing I would do is clean and lube the lock mechanism and then operate the locking with the trim off and have a look/listen

good luck

yep goo advice nath mate, a easier aproach might be to just try some WD40 if the rear washer has leaked in the passed then it might have affectes the lock

Yes trim will have to come off soon

It's strange. I can hear the central locking servo 'clunk' every time the system is activated but it's completely random as to whether its actually locked or unlocked the mechansim.

Doesn't sound like a common fault then so far?

Out of coincidence my rear washer has packed up. Havn't worked out where the leak is yet but as the washer bottle totally empties itslef when the car is left standing, I presumed it must have sprung a leak somewhere low down, like the reservoir at the front of the car

Well I wasn't convinced that a water leak would cause a problem when I could hear the servo activating each time.

The servo slides onto the back of the lock and clips into place
The clip on mine seems to have worn over time and now doesn't 'clip' any longer. This allows the servo to slide on back and forth on the back of the lock as it chooses. When it slides into place it activates the lock, when it slides away it doesn't!

Cable tie to keep it in place and all is well!
