Tail light problems??

alrite lads on my ibiza gti 16v all of my rear lights are workin except the following;

Driver side brake light and passenger side brake light also the light at the top of the boot! (so i have no brake lights at all!!)

Driver side tail light

all of the other lights like the indicator,fog etc work but whats puzzling me more is to why i have no brake lights at all, the fuse is fine and i have changed the bulbs.

What else could this be???

ur help will be much appreciated as im a bit fed up of ppl nearly parkin on my back seat!

Perhaps the switch? It's on the back of the brake pedal.

had no experience with those switches m8! could you put it in dumb ass terms for me as to what mite be wrong with it?? how can i tell if its broken?

If you look at the back of the brake pedal, it's a white plastic component attached to a bracket. As the brake pedal is pushed in, it pushes the switch too.

Don't have an easy way to tell if it's broken, electronics aren't my thing!

cheers for that m8 il have a look tomoz when it gets light and see if i can fiond something (wil probably end up being nothing! if it is that is there any other reason for the tail light on the driver side not workin as its had a new bulb in aswell! really wierd!

Could be a connection somewhere in the wiring? If you can find a mate who's handy with a multimeter, it'll be much easier to find out whether power is getting through to certain points in the loom.

Pipe from your rear wiper spray come loose and corroded your connections?

Could just be that the clusters died (the board that all the fuses plug into), should be easy to replace.

Id definatly go for the switch first, cheap and easy to replace.

yes going to have a look at the switch first.

I did notice on the motorway yestaday tho that the rear washer jet wasnt squirtin water tho so maybe that has came loose, am i rite in thinkin these pipes are behind the cluster where the bulbs are?? i noticed them when i changed the bulbs and also had a look at the plug with all the connections on and that seemed spot on.

As for the cluster not workin y wud the indicator and fog light stil work but the tail and brake not?

just got back from the car. The rear waher pipe had came off so i put that back on and cleaned the plug off etc however;

The indicator makes the tail light flash

The driver side tail light isnt workin at all.

No brake lights what so eva!

am i better off just taking it somewhere to be looked at?

Are the bulbs all ok?
Have you checked your fuses?

yes m8 bulbs and fuses are fine! theres nothing pointing to what it mite be so if no1 knows or has had anything similar to this then im just going to have to take it to the stealers which i dont want to do! i cant go drivin about without brake lights lol! and the lil white switch i cannot get to as im a muscular built lad and just cant get in!!

Don't take it to a dealer they'll know sod all. Take it to a decent auto electritian

take the glove box out from under the dash (open and push L+R tags inwards) and lean forward - should be easy to get to it

if ya that big slide the seat back and/or one bolt at the front and slide it out altogether

mind you, can i ask how you are testing em ?

My washer jet pipe had come off and was leaking onto the bulb holder ( passenger side rear ) and was causing allsorts of things flashing when i put the lights on. I've since replaced the bulb holder and a small section of wiring. Works ok now. As for no brake lights working, sounds like the switch. If its just a 2 wire plug on the switch, you could disconnect the switch and bridge the terminals and that will illiminate the switch, if the brake lights now work.
