Am looking buying a N reg Fiat Punto as a present for my Sisters brothers 21st B'day, only looking to spend about £500-£600 pound as a run around until he can afford something better for himself, plus if its cheap and cheerful then it doesn't matter if he has any little dings ect.

The fiat has the factory standard white paint and tbh its alittle tatty, but no rust anywhere which is good. The garage i'm buying it from suggested t-cut to bring the white up looking nice again. My question it, can T-cut be used on white paint and what results will it get??

I would say use something less abrasive than T-Cut like Scratch-X or another decent polish. Technically you won't actually be polishing the colour, more the lacquer that protects it.

White cars don't usually have laquer on them specially older ones. T-cut worked a treat on my old white 16V beezer ;)

A days work on it will make a world of difference.

A friend very recently sold his old Escort van. Totally flat paint. A days graft and it looked really good.

Roll up thou's sleeves.

Quick update, i ended up buying a M reg clio 1.2 Parade. Abit rough around the edges and a ding in the door but its mechanically sound with lots of serice history and just had the cambelt changed 140miles ago, so couldn't really turn it down. 10 months MOT still to run so he has nearly a years trouble free motoring, fingers crossed.
I have spent the last 3 afternoons tarting the paintwork up, so far i've managed to do the boot, the drivers side, the bonnet and both front wings. After washing each panel first, i t cut the panel, used turtlewax colour match polish, followed by AG UDS polish, followed by nanotech and finally DoDo wax. And i am getting some good result.
If you like i can post some progress pics?? Just let me know if you wanna see as its not a Seat...

You probably can get away with just using autoglym resin polish will do the job rather than using T-cut. Normally to get the colour back you just need a good paint cleaner. of course to get rid of scratches then T-Cut works but its very abrasive.

Trust me, if you saw the paintwork then you'd agree that it needs t-cutting. It was in a terrible state, then again you are a master at machine polishing and i'm still to scared to try. It wasn't just the colour fade, but the amount of scrathes and marks on it was terrible and the polish just wasn't touching them.
And as it is a surprise present for someone i want it to look its best. Its taking abit of time but its beginning to look pretty good now and i am please with what i have achieved so for. I only have the Nearside to do and then the roof (which is probably in the worst state of all).
Have to say a big thankyou again for the thechniques i picked up from you last year, used alot of them on the clio and well chuffed. Didn't realise how much of a difference the little things make in bringing the car back to its former glory days (if there was any for a 1.2 clio parade, hahaha)

Still got some bits a bobs to do, like fit some wheel trims and clean up the interior ect, but overall i'm pretty pleased with the results i've got.
