Symptoms of a loose intercooler pipe ??

Loud whooshing under boost, high pitched spshsshshshshs kinda noise and oil vapour visible on area of suspected leak (no more for me fitted a catch can yesterday yay!) once you do it up could pull harder!

If it's not attached then usually no performance, and clouds of black smoke under any kind of load, as there's no turbocharger pressure (the turbo is pre-intercooler, so if you have an IC leak then all the air from the turbo just ends up in the atmosphere). If it's just "loose" then just lowered performance as some of the pressure from the turbo will be escaping, and maybe a little bit of smoke.


Just for my education, why would you get clouds of black smoke? If a hose was loose, wouldn't the turbo just be pulling clean air through the air filter along the hoses and straight out where its not connected?

Got ya, I thought you meant black smoke out the leak, but you mean out the back of the exhaust because of the over fueling. That makes sense. Cheers.
