Im fancying getting my FR TDi 130 chipped to get it upto a nice speed, but im worried about clutch slip.
Car has done 15000miles and is an 05 plate.
Is it possible to have a switch in the car that can switch between the maps whilst I am driving. This would be ideal for me

Cheers guys

I don't think there's any that can be switched while on the move.

Only thing I can think of is Upsolute's old physical re-chip with a little antenna that can be switched by a remote fob, a bit crude looking and never caught on.

I had an AmD OneClick that needed the ignition off to change settings, and I would think REVOs dongle would need the engine off to change over. Custom Code goes via a cable to a laptop computer so I would think that also would need the engine off, and even if it didn't you'd need a passenger to operate it!

Some tuning boxes used to have a wire that you could hard wire a switch into though, so that quite possibly could be your only option, assuming you can still get them in that style......

Your clutch should be fine if you adapt your driving style and dont boot under 2k, feed power in blah blah blah...

Almost every VAG can switch between programs if you have the possibility of multiple programs and a vag-com.
In my previous ibiza i had 3 programs and in my FR i have 2.

The other option is just get a decent map tailored to limit the torque peak and save the clutch, but retain the top end power.
Then you won't need to switch.

I suppose switching it with the ignition off would be OK. Then when im just pottering round, I can have it off, and when I feel like going for a blast, I can turn it on. Is it easy to switch the maps then. Its just I dont want to have the laptop out all the time etc. Would be nice to have a switch, a bit like the M button on the new M5,lol.
I suppose im just worried about shaggin the clutch more than owt if I have the high power all the time.

Cheers for all the replies guys

I'd have thought that constantly having to switch maps (either using a tool like Revo's SPS, or via a laptop) would become a right pain, why not just get a map that avoids the problem in the first place...

i think the switch you need is under your right foot! as sisson said if you drive with a careful right foot you will save the clutch (and fuel) surely the idea of having more power is to have it there when you need it?

Yeah I know its good to have it all the time, but I was thinking along the lines of the SPORT button in the new astras that give it that bit more performance with the button pressed.
I wanted the switch cos my GF drives the car sometimes and she will just put her foot down in 4th n 5th n burn the clutch. Just trying to avoid a possible melt down.
Cheers
