My car is in the dealers for a 70k service (first one out of warranty) and I got a call to say while removing the sump plug, some of the thread has stayed in rendering the sump useless so they have to order me a new one at a cost of £225 ish (can't remember the price). If I had warranty it would have been done for nought.
Am I being totally done here, the dealer said it was quite a common problem, just wanted to ask before I go back tomorrow to hand over the readies.

Cheers

sounds like it, but if I argue and they won't pay for it then I am left with no car
which is why they are trying to get you to pay

as stu said - drill and tap - worse case a helicoil (last resort) not all techs are just fitters - even nowadays

HERES A GOOD POINT - ;) you'll like this (only work if they have done last few services

firstly ask the reason why the fault could have happened (overtightening is usually the answer) then (if it is right info) ask them to explain why it was put in too tight the last time they worked on it then ? and how are they going to rectify the situation they caused both then and now

bad news is - if they didnt service it last time it wont work - sorry

dont take any readies with ya - no way

If you took a shopping basket to the checkout & the spotty kid scanned the barcode & dropped the product on the floor would you still buy it because there was no more food?

I'd ask to speak to the workshop manager to explain why it's happened (and did they f*ck it when the put it in last time)

They have done the last couple of services after I got totally p1ssed off with the jobsworths at the dealers I previously went to. Now this dealer has come up with this I am gradually losing my faith with Seat in general after having 4 Ibizas. Not got a problem with the cars, just the thieving jobsworth dealers. Can you tell I'm not best pleased?

I hate to ask, but why go to a dealer when the car is out of warranty? The best garage I've used was in a big shed. Unfortunately it was in a prime location and the owner was offered enough for it to let him retire.

I had the best relationship with the dealer where I bought my cars, but the service guy left and their replacement is the most unfriendly and unhelpful man in the entire world which made me go out of my way to get to this dealer I go to now

Somethings just made me laugh though, I left my ice hockey kit that I wore Sunday night in the boot where I thought they were going to have the car for about an hour. My god that will be ripe when they open the boot in the morning...lol

as a bonus

now you have a bit of firepower to throw back at em when they offer to repair it at their cost merely hint at the fact you were told a new sump was required ;)

UPDATE:
phoned the dealer this morning, and apparently its due to 'wear and tear' of having so many services (6). To quote Catherine Tate "What a load of old sh1t"
They said they have tried to claim this under warranty before but the warranty company won't pay it. All he has done now is given me the Seat Customer Services number to see if I get any joy off them because I am not going to get any from the dealer
