Possible causes (at a guess) - Coolant Sensor, iffy lambda, failing coilpack, dying MAF. Find someone with access to VAGcom to read fault codes is your best bet, or call in to the dealers, who will no doubt charge.

I have recently had the same and found the problem to be where the plastic fuel lines come up into the engine bay near the air filter and they are connected to the rubber hoses that lead to the fuel rail....the rubber hoses had slightly cracked and the clips had losened so that a small seep was apparent...worth a quick check
Check correct fitment of FPR on injection rail if recently had any engine re-map mod's. The seals on this unit can become perished and/or worn during prolonged contact with fuel. Worth a look.
