Depends on a few things. Is the car relatively new? If so I'd respray and possibly protect it with a clear vinyl as well to prevent it happening again as presumably it's down to your particular journey?
If it's an older car, I might be tempted to just vinyl the bonnet (£200 or less) and worry about the damage closer to resale time.
Carbonskin look quite good on the vinyling front.

Well there are other factors to consider. If you vinyl, the rest of the car paint will fade compared with the bonnet. Reds fade more visibly than other colors (though not as bad as yellow).

Vinyling these days looks pretty damn good to be honest. If you go with a decent company, it will look very good.

Carbonskin is just the name of the company by the way, they do gloss/matt/carbon wraps. In my humble opinion a gloss black bonnet would look brilliant, whether vinyl or resprayed.

A permanent solution like the respray could become a problem if you have plans to re-sell.

If stone chipping is very bad/deep you can get some lifting with vinyl. Respray alone with water based paint on mk2 bonnet and it will be back to square one very quickly.

The MK2 bonnet is rather weak Im on my 2nd one and its constantly getting chipped regardless the speed you drive and yea don't have someone pressing on it too as it can dent quite easily...

Dave,

Do you mind me asking where you sourced the bonnet from? How much was it and where you got it sprayed?

Thanks,

Mike

Hi Mike

sorry I should of explained that its my 2nd car that I was refering both black magic. First bonnet was dented in the middle and it needed to be resprayed (local bodyshop) and the one I have now just chips alot...but I do alot of M4 driving.

brought one of those touch up pens from ebay for a fiver does the job :) I try to keep it polished and wax'd and it tends to help it a bit but not alot.

If I was to source anew bonnet it be ebay...take it to a local body shop and get it sorted, I think the price is 150 to 200.
