Stock air intake bumper cowling mod/cutting.

Hi all, I was preparing to install the upgraded Ram Air panel filter, silicone hose and turbo elbow. And noticed the front bumper cowling/feed only had a feed from one side of the bumper. Yet the cowling had a moulded section to act as another air inlet, but just needed to to cut out. Presumably this is open on other models.

Has anyone cut this bit out. I'm looking to get more sound from engine, Stock side is green and the blanked off section I'm planning on cutting out is red. I'm trying to keep it fairly stock looking and power levels (OEM+) as I got a 3 year warranty on the car. 1.8TSI FR ST DSG. I can't see a reason why this might have left blocked except to limit engine/intake noise.

I'd rather have it fitted, over removing it completely and just having the air box semi open, reduced the risk of water and debris getting in. It's England after all.

Edit: added extra photos just for clarity with the cover off, markings for stock airflow.

I have opened up mine, Leon Cupra R -18. It was one of the first adjustments I did back in 2018 when I bought the Cupra.

Our VW Golf Alltrack 1.8 TSI is also blocked as all VAG cars are.

Thanks great. I'll probably get on that tomorrow once I've fitted the new RamAir panel filter and assorted accessories, it's just been delivered.

Have you noticed any improvement of induction sound? Also have you removed the slotted tray the air filter sits on?
I've seen a video of a someone online who's done claims it improves sound but I didn't notice much.

Yes, I think so. I haven't had my "snow grate" in the air box for years. Now run with a regular paper filter instead of K&N.

PS intake sound. No big change of induction sound. On the former Golf 7 R i had an open CTS Intake, rather loud intake sound!

I had just done this yesterday on my 290, no real intake sound changes but my wastegate seems to be a bit more consistently noticeable at lower revs, that could just be a coincidence though.
