Stereo Problem

Hi all,

I am fairly new here so i apologise if i get anything wrong, i.e. wrong forum section or this question has already been answered.

I recently bought a 2000 1.4/s. HU keeps displaying "TELEPHONE" and flicks to and from the radio which resets the volume which is incredibly annoying, also interupts radio signal while it flicks.

I have searched the forums for a company that fix these head units, but have only found redundant threads where the company no longer fixes these issues.

Have been to my local Stealer (correct term?) garage and was told they dont repair or replace these anymore.

If anybody has fixed this problem before or knows of a company that can fix/refurb my HU it would be much appreciated.

I don't think they do mate, have a look around a scrapys or any ibizas that are being broken down on ebay and search for a new unit.

I think it displays "telephone" when you have a car phone system plumbed into the head unit wiring.

They have an "interrupt" cable, so if the phone rings, it cuts out the stereo (and I presume, displays "telephone".

If a phone system has been fitted to the car before, then maybe they have left the cable loose and its picking up a voltage from somewhere and telling the head unit to go into interrupt mode.

Check the cabling at the back and see if anything is plugged/wired in that shouldnt be and remove it.
If there isnt any rogue wiring in the back then it sounds like the unit may be faulty.

Thanks for that, i will get my mate to have a look at the wiring over the weekend. Not exactly my area of expertise :cartman: .
