Stereo control unit failure

Hey guys, this is my first post on this forum and I hope you can help!
I have a 2015 Leon FR, with what I believe is an MIB1 with 5.8 inch screen.
It has no sat nav, but my local SEAT dealer installed Full Link.
The control unit has failed and SEAT are quoting £2k to replace it.
Anyone know where to find a 5QA035858, and how do I get it installed. Not by SEAT of course ;)

Feels like one for @East Yorkshire Retrofits one of the boards sponsors. There are projects shown on the threads here where people do DIY Retrofits which is another alternative.

Sometimes these units do corrupt themselves and need the firmware reinstalled. Whether your dealer would have picked up on that or whether it's really kaput.

thanks for the quick response! the dealer tried to do several software updates, but they all failed. they told me i need a new control unit. not something i'm able to do myself. spotted East Yorkshire Retrofits online actually, but a bit of a trek from London!

Where my Googling pointed to mib2 on that code. I did also read that the firmware update has to be done on ODIS on the entry level systems. Hence why I wondered whether they hadn't been able to sort it out. Might need a skill level the dealer hasn't got. Mib2 standards are fully unpicked and understood these days. Whether you could get one of those in the slot.. Pass. Where people were upgrading their old mib1 to 2s. @Walone . But if you are not a DIY guy then you are looking for someone to do it.

Yes, this part number is MIB2. We can supply and configure a replacement for plug and play
Yes a set of keys like this I guess is required to get it out. What I bought to get a mib2 standard out when something got pushed into the CD slot... youtube videos on line to show how to use them. The extraction tool if it's like mib2 standard / high. Push to one side and pull out etc. Then unclip the leads etc...

There is one on ebay for £166 at the moment that matches your part number and is from a UK VAT registered business, reducing the chances of it being a stolen unit. In order for it to be fitted properly and coded/activated correctly then you would need an independent specialist with ODIS.

As long as the Seat dealership activated Full Link via SWAP/ODIS then it will be logged on the server and can easily be restored, again via ODIS, as part of the set up after fitting.

You don't mention where you are from but look locally for a VAG independent with ODIS and then go from there.

That's the source of retrofitters units scrapped cars at yards.

The boards sponsors @East Yorkshire Retrofits are very reliable and have dug many people out of holes before in the past. Totally recommended.

So what’s the deal? Buy a part like that from eBay and send it away to East Yorkshire Retrofit to be coded/activated?

We'll wait with expectation. I would have got a cost from the boards sponsor, if good, extract the unit and send it off by registered post. That way they can check if it broken, if so fit a replacement unit or repair it.
Absolutely. Have already sent them an email via their website. Keep an eye out! Cheers.
