Steering wheel alignment

Hi all

I recently bought a used approved Cupra Formentor in the UK and in the main I am happy with it. However, I have an issue with the car that I find hard to live with and makes are want to return it. When I received the car I noticed that the resting position of the steering wheel is not level. It is down a few degrees to the right. Caffyns agreed to pay for a tracking check and adjustment which has helped but not fixed it. In fact, on a flat level area the car will drive arrow straight with the steering wheel down to the right. If you adjust the steering wheel to a level position the car veers to the left. Caffyns have offered to investigate which hasn’t been done yet as we’re also waiting on the delivery of a second key to do both things at once.

I would grateful for any advice you have in the mean time.

I had the same problem when I bought Tormentor in october 2022. During first 3 months I noticed that the car was pulling to the right side and for it to go straight I had to hold steering wheel quite a bit to the left. Apart from damaging the tires it was also very annoying to drive with speed over 100 km/h. Went to cupra workshop and made warranty claim. They checked the geometry and wheel aligment and well... fixed it a bit but not all. I was angry at them because I had to wait like 6 hours for them to fix it and then they didn't do it correctly. So I went on with that coz it was better than before. But like a week ago I decided to call my local suspension workshop during wheel change and went there and finally they managed to get it straight. Now driving is very good and finally I'm not exhausted from constantly holding the steering wheel to the left. For me it was like factory problem but it could present itself after hitting a hole in a road or some kerb. Had to pay like 75 euro for the fix but at least they managed to do it far better than official cupra workshop.

many thanks st4niu

mines annoying but strangely mine does not drift requiring me to hold the steering. subconsciously it feels wrong as when the car is going steering the steering wheel is off level and when naturally turning left you fell like your level the SW to go straight. does my head in.

the dealership doesn't seem to know (like they've not see it before) but to be fair they have not had the chance to investigate yet.

Thanks. I’ve had 4 wheel tracking done already. I’ve spoken to the dealership and their technician is suggesting the tracking has not been done properly after centering the steering wheel.

🤔Is it just me,?
If the car is tracking true when driving, could it be as simple as the steering wheel is off true by a spline and a simple adjustment is all that is needed? 🙂

I ended up going back to have the tracking rechecked. The dealership advised me to let the tracking outfit know they need to make sure the steering wheel is dead center before that make any adjustments. They said they had the first time but after picking the car up the second time they’d fixed it. However, I do find the weight of steering odd and I am trying an individual profile with steering set to sport

Are your tyres directional? and if so are they on the right way round for each wheel?
