Steering rack rattle test

Hopefullly a bit closer to finally solving a never ending rattle...

I wondered if all you helpful SCN folks could do a little test for me. Engine off, steering lock off, gently rock the steering wheel at the 12 o clock position left to right. Is there any knocking??

Mine knocks quite badly, one "Audi trained" technician tells me I need new steering rack
Another "Audi trained" guy tells me its normal!

I think its inner tie rods?? No movement in the track rod ends, and if you put hand around the steering rack rubber boot and rock wheel you can defo feel some movement. Thanks!

My car knocks the same as how you describe, and has had a new rack fitted under warranty before I bought it.

But I hope it sorts it for you!

Im having this problem at the moment, my brother (10+ as a mechanic); thinks i may need a new steering rack as when going from lock to lock fluid is leaking from the boot. Also have the knocking noise when rocking the steering. !

mine does the same only when still

had it checked and my mechanic said its fine.

this happens a lot with ibizas so don't worry to much just adds to all the other noises
