steering control module replace

Hello

steering wheel controls on my 56 FR have stopped working

i recently changed the headunit for an aftermarket one, and bought the patch lead to for the steering wheel controls, but still doesnt work...

read online could be a faulty 'steering control module' does anyone know where this is located?

also how do you remove the airbag off a fr steering wheel want to check the cabling behind

I assume that the patch lead is designed for your headunit and is compatible with your car?

Have the steering controls worked since upgrading the headunit or never worked? Do they still work with the standard headunit refitted?

sounds silly saying it but have you tried using them with the engine running as i had an aftermarket stereo in my old cupra and used a patch lead and i thought it didnt work kept messing around with it took me ages to work out it only worked with the ignition switched on.

yes they are the correct leads

yes they used to work with the old alana cd player... but then one day stopped?

i never looked into why as knew was fitting my aftermarket one... but after cabling it up still not working??

read a bit online, a module needs changing??? also any idea how to get the airbag off on the steering wheel ??

sounds like you haven't purchased the necessary extra harness patch lead. check out the mk4 FAQ's for the sticky on this

i have got the patch lead as stated about... plugged into the loom and into the black box....

as stated is never worked before in alana cd player... it just stopped one day

maybe the connectors on the steering wheel modules...guess the only way to tell is to have vagcom plugged up to it for any errors
