Start issues and power issues

Hi Folks,
Long time lurker, first time poster.
I have two issues with my 1.8 20V non turbo Toledo.
This morning it did not start at all. Not a battery issue as C/locking etc are all in order but it just did not turn over at all. No click or anything. Could this be an ignition coil issue as I have read bits and pieces about these failing??

The second issue is that it tend to sound like its at higher revs than it is?? It also takes a couple of minutes in the morning to get the power to kick in fully?

I'd appreciate any help I could get particularly with the starter as this is a big issue.

Thanks.

so you turn the key and nothing?

sounds like starter motor?
may be sticking.....i had a fiesta that did that...i used to have to hit the starter motor with the stop lock...alternatively i rocked the car in gear...as if bump starting and it freed it up....i had some dodgy scream noise (like a fishing reel being pulled out at a rate of knots when you have hooked a big one) just after the car fired up on the run up to the complete breakdown though....
incidently my tolly starter motor also developed this noise, but never stuck.....

dont know why it would sound like it is at higher revs than it is??? it should only be high for a little while (max 1100) when the autochock is on.....when it warms it should knock off and drop to say 900.....(if i remember correctly).....
by the way....no car like being ragged from cold.....if it is a persistent power problem after it is warm then there may be sommit to worry about.....is this something you have only just noticed?:D

Hi Sam,
Thanks for the response.

I used to do the same thing with an old fiesta as well with the starter motor. It may be the same issue here alright. I was just inquiring if there was something in particular with VAG that I should look out for.

As for the second issue. The problem in the morning is like as if the autochoke is taking a bit longer thatn it should to kick out (and I don't rag it btw ;) ).
This isn't really the problem but I thought it might be related. To clarify the issue: say if the car is warm and you are driving along in fifth gear I would often take it out of fifth thinking I was in fourth as it would seem like it was under pressure. Its kinda like it blowing too hard.
