Well it is a bit. Have done some research and it seems if you want to uprate its best to go for the hole kit. I bought cheap coilovers which are fine they do a job. However, i drive the car everday over rough bumpy roads and am finding them a bit "crashy". So it looks like i will be uprating to Weitec coilovers. Meant to have a more comfortable ride. Depends on what you want in the end i guess though.

Do u know why only doing springs wasnt recommended???

I was thinking of just doing springs as i have never had any bad experiences in the past of doing only them, but now i might think twice!! :p

I spoke to a dude at the pompey GSF and he highly recommended 35mm drop on NEW standard dampers, along with new top mounts and some other bushes from various VAG cars.

This is all on a golf mind you, but worth a call if your local GSF (or phone portsmouth) is as on the ball as here.

Don't fit coilovers to get a comfortable ride, Weitec coilovers are linked with KW who make racing coilovers. these will be track focussed. fit coils and springs if you wnat a drop plus comfortable DD car

It's always best to get a matched springs and shocks set as it'll last longer and perform better then just putting lowering springs on standard shocks.

Hi
The shockers are the part that wears
So if you have 40k ish miles on , then the shockers are getting to the point that they are due to replace anyway
60k miles out of shockers is quite good , any more and you are doing well
I myself had my suspension changed at 90k miles , and thought I was doing well , and it was only when I had it changed , I realised just how bouncy my car was
I had the Koni STR.T kit from Koni fitted to my car , and still to this date , 151k miles it is still running and handling well
My son took my car to work yesterday as his MK4 Golf was in getting new tyres , and his responce was , wow fuel economy and handling!!!
So a Fabia 100PD compared to MK4 Golf GTi , and it can still bring a nice little grin to a 24 year old lad ;)

Anyone running standard shocks with uprated lowering srings? What is this set up like?

Thanks

Alright? I'm new on here. I have a Seat Arosa and have just ordered 40mm springs all round, which will go on with the standard shocks in place. My car is 2005 reg and only done 22k miles so hopefully, it'll be alright.

I've heard/read from many sources that 40mm is the recommended maximum drop on standard shocks. When I asked why this was when buying my springs, I was informed that even lower springs (say 60mm drop) could literally "slide" out when the car is raised (eg, over a bump) because they are shorter than standard springs. I'm guessing too that the standard shocks are designed to work with springs of a certain length, that is, standard spring lengths.

Also, if you take out your ordinary springs and size them up with 40mm springs, the are the same length ; it's just that when fitted, the 40mm springs compress a lot more to give the required drop ; so they're safe.

I realise this is a very late reply to your post but hopefully it'll be useful to someone in the future! I'll try and update when I get round to fitting my springs.
