Do you mean the real North West, or just the NW of Englandcestershire? ;)

Assuming you want more power & some nice pipes, I'd go to an exhaust fabricator and get them to make you a bit of straight pipe to replace the rear box, and extend to show visible "tailpipes".

As detailed on tdiclub.com, removal of the rear silencer (affectionately known as a mufflerectomy) gives similar increase to sound and power as a (much more expensive) free-flow system.

Agree with Mik that an aftermarket exhaust adds nothing but might look nice.

remove the silencer and get a custom pipe made.

Noted on TDIclub someone mentioned that if you bring the pipes out straight that it will soot the bumper unless you extend them out a bit !!

will that suit the cordy as well?? also baring in ming i've got a MKIII???

what would i do regarding mot's and services?? swop back?? could i get a piece of stainless to replace the silencer with a female end and to finish extend to a 4" polished tail?? would this sound stupidly load or would it put a smile on my face, cos i don't want to wake my neighbours up with a tractor outside the house!!!

Is the Cordy a 3-silencer system?

If so, then removal of the 3rd box will make it growlier, but (apparently) doesn't increase the diesel "clatter". With 2 silencer boxes remaining it won't sound like a bus :)

Any fabricator will be able to make up a female-type end on a bit-o-pipe.

For MOTs just leave it on ~ shouldn't affect you. Wouldn't bother for service either.
