Hello guys just after a bit of advice.

I've just recently purchased another mk2 2007 model leon fr Tdi (pd170).... That has dpf delete and stage 2 shark map, it also has a straight through un-silenced mid pipe and aftermarket backbox (which I wanna change for standard).

The car when it comes on boost kicks out a load of black smoke from the rear..... Don't get me wrong I no diesels can be smokey once played with, is dpf removal and re-maps etc.

I've searched on here and from what people say it could be a sign of a boost leak (checked all intercooler boost pipes and vac lines.... All good) or faulty air flow meter..... I've cleaned the air flow meter with some halfords contact cleaner, it's started to pi$$ it down so not been able to go for a run with that back in yet!!

Also the turbo was changed under warranty last year so I was hoping that has plenty of life left..... However when I took the airbox out I removed turbo inlet pipes and checked the condition of the shaft, it was soaked in oil around the turbine wheel and had minimal side to side play....... Does that sound ok?

The car drives fine and pulls well enough, boost doesn't seem to drop off or anything, also it doesn't smoke any other time apart from the 2nd it comes on boost.. The smokes always black as well.

When my old gsi's VXR turbo was fooked (well the oil seals) it used to kick out blue smoke.

Anyone have any advice or suggestions for me?

Many thanks

The DPF is a soot filter with it removed it will smoke and is considered normal.

Oil on the low pressure side can be something as innocent as the breather hose from the cam cover naturally breathing oily vapour into the inlet track - also pretty normal.

Many thanks for the reply mate.

The amount of black smoke it kicks out when it comes on boost is quite a bit, I look in the rear view mirror and can see a big cloud of black smoke.

I think a trip to shark performance sounds like a good idea, hopefully they can make it less smoky.

I've just sold my astra gsi with VXR engine and stage 2 hybrid K04 as sell as my passat to get back in another mk2 fr tdi.

Feels good to be back in another one again, this ones definitely a keeper :)

The Stage2 shark map is one ofthe strongest stage 2 DPF Delete maps on the market ... Me, Wee G and Kilner had their Stage 2+ map aswell which was very illegal in terms of smoke.

They will be able to flash you a Stage1 which will be less smoke but less poke

Hiya JB thanks for the reply mate.

To be honest I think I may ask for a stage 1 map to be put on, my last couple of cars I was all about wanting more power (had a turbo'd type R/charged type R and 310 Bhp GSI).... With the Leon though its my family/daily driver now so the less smoke the better.

With the car not having a DPF anymore as well as after market exhaust..... I suppose that will make it a lot smokier.....

This is the zaust I have on-

Hopefully referring back to a standard cat back exhaust and a stage 1 map will make it less smokey.

Even a stage 1 fr tdi with dpf deleted will have plenty of torques to keep me happy for the next year or so. (I hope lol)

Changing the exhaust won't really stop the smoke it's the mapping

Hi,

Yes as the other guys have mentioned about having a DPF removal as well as a map it will be smokier. The DPF is what restricts the car from its performance and acts like a filter in a way.. no idea if you have a de-cat or not but all this will all add up. Having the DPF removal as well as a map it will be smokier when putting your foot down..
the only way to get rid of the smoke is to 1 get in contact with the mappers and see what they would advise or 2 if its straight through from the turbo maybe consider putting in a sports cat. also do not worry about black smoke this does not always mean something is broke, what this means is that the car is breathing and releasing the gasses it needs to.

only just brought a diesel myself before I had an Audi s3 but time to make my pd170 into a torque machine!

cheers.
