Stage 2 LCR owners...

Hello, I have a stage 2 APR LCR, and it may be normal, but i have found that when driving normally, if you let the car come on boost (say foot 3/4 down) then back off ever so slightly, the car kind of comes totally off boost and roars from the exhaust if you get what i mean rather than a smooth decrease in boost pressure and a smooth transition of speed...

for instance, if im stuck behind somebody and go to overtake, but not wanting to go balls out, just smoothly with a bit of boost, it seems to completely go flat when you adjust the throttle back a tiny bit from putting it from 3/4 to 1/2...with a loud exhaust roar.

Driving flat out etc it is absolutely fine, and it may be normal now the boost/flow characteristics have changed over standard etc..just wondering if anyone else had noticed!

Any views would be appreciated:)

Hi Dan
Mmmm I would say yes do the throttle body clean and adjust
It can make a differnece to be fair
Also has there been a fault check done too?
This could possibly show up a small afult
Good luck and let us know how you get on ;)

what boost you running and whats your dv set up?

In my experience all the leons ive driven struggle if you try to modulate the throttle in this manner. I find the 1.8T to like either on/off throttle use, or progressive increases but not application of significant throttle and then reduction of this.

However its interesting you are getting a roar from your exhaust... do you mean unburnt fuel sound? or a resinating type of sound?

I get something similar to this, with the exhaust 'roar'.
Usually happens at slow speed in 2nd / 3rd gear when the car loses traction exiting from a slow corner and the traction light comes on and adjusts throttle - if you keep you foot in the same place the exhaust note changes and it is much louder.
Doen't happen much so it does not bother me, but a strange phenomenon.
I dont think it happens when I back off, though it is difficult to modulate the power in the lower gears without the car jerking.

I think i get the same thing, feels like a bit of back pressure from the exhaust in mine. Sometimes driving at low speeds through the gears the exhaust tone is a lot louder for a second and then carries on as normal. Another exmaple is if i overtake someone (quickly!!) then back off (to a sensible/legal speed:p) I get a more 'boomy' sound from exhaust and then it goes back to normal

Not sure what i need to do really, assumed it was a slight side effect as a result of a remap and full exhaust system.

any ideas would be appreciated

cheers

Hey guys! Thanks for the replys!:)

Yeah, back on the road and happy as ever thanks Carl! stage 2 leon feels a tiny bit faster than a Ka courtesy car:p

I have done a fault code check, and it comes up with no problems at all. How do i do the allignment using vag-com?do i need the full version for this?? I had the boost hose off a while back and all was clean in there too.

Im running 101.95% boost on v-tune i think, i backed it down a bit from 102.something and it does seem to be smoother. Dump valve is a 007p with yellow spring.

Oh, and i doubt its fuel in exhaust, well, hope not!lol!

More of a boomy sound as freshmode said..like its too free-flowing for little boost if you get me...

i had same thing with my stage 3 cupra (beeza) and my stage 1 LCR.
Think the VAG cars dnt like backwards throttle adjustment, they cant vent the right amount of pressure, so the car has to "Re-boost" almost back to new throttle possition
not easy cars to drive fast in the way of throttle control sometimes. if your smooth, then they are good.

when i cleaned my throttle body, my car ran like crap for about a week...i thought for some reason my car was limping, cos it just didnt want to rev.....the garage that cleaned it, warned me about this tho before they did it....ran better when the ecu relearned how to apply the boost again

**update**

Found the problem!! :D

Car hit gimp mode on way home from work today! Logged as boost pressure loss.

Checked under the bonnet when got home and found that the hose from the charge pipe to the n75 valve to be split bad at the charge pipe 't'.

Reset code and fitted new hose so should now all be gravy!:)
