Squealing brakes in reverse/excessive brake dust normal?

I've only had my Leon (standard FR) a couple of months but not that impressed
with the brake pads they dont seem as responsive as I expected them to be. Plus they squeal when put into reverse, is this normal??

I also noticed that the front brake pads produce an excessive amount of brake dust, my front wheels are almost black! (which kinda looks ok with black car but...) I am a bit of a late breaker but never saw this much brake dust build up so quickly on my Toledo.

Anyway, I've taken it to a Seat dealer as there are a few other issues and will see what they do or say. They'll probably just dismantle the brake pads and give them a good clean to get the brake dust out, and of course give the car a wash (good timing as it was rather dirty!).

CH1, i have recently changed my OE pads and discs for an aftermarket set, and i hardly get any brake dust, can go a week and wheels still look new!

I think id cooked the old pads and the discs were pitted, mine also squealed forwards or backwards, mine were time for a change. Not saying that what you need to do mind.

do you get any brake fade? and were you heavy on the brakes from day one? as they needed to be bedded in properly and not allowed to get too hot for long periods.

Cheers. The squealing isnt there all the time but will bear that in mind for next time. They could find nothing wrong. It is under warranty so shouldn't be a problem. They cleaned the brakes a bit and they just seem tighter but when they start wearing out will consider another aftermarket brand I think. My rattles solved too -loose cable inside dash vent.
(I wish Service reception staff wouldn't keep changing so much completely new bunch from when I used to take my Toledo in.)

Well, I've just had these hand brake cable brackets fitted to stop the squealing on my brakes mainly whilst reversing and hey it works - no more squealing brakes; a result!!

And if you car is still under warranty the dealer will do it FOC.

part number is 1h0698998c

I get some squealing in reverse and also a groaning sort of noise too - sounds very worrying.

Mine does this too. Has done it from day 1, when reversing up the drive. I thought it was nothing to worry about, so was just going to mention it at its 1st service. Along with the glovebox cover coming away at the edge.
I may have a trip into the dealers a little earlier now that others have had a similar problem and its a relatively easy fix.

Ooh this is very uplifting, the noise drives me insane :censored:

It is quite embarrassing also

How long does the part take to fit? Will call my local dealer about this tomorrow!
