Bit of a shot in the dark really!!

My '03 LCR has a squeak. It sounds like the noise slightly similar to a slipping fanbelt squeak (but isn't).

I'm finding it hard to pinpoint where the squeak is coming from but it is only there when I coast off throttle. As soon as I accelerate or brake the squeak dissapears. It's driving me mad as it's making the car sound like a nail!! :(

I know it's probably like the 'how long is a piece of string' question but has anyone got any ideas what it could be???

Cheers :)

Its could be anything mate. Belt or pulley! If its a skeaky pulley then get it cheaked as this could make the timing belt slip or snap.

If you've not had your timing belt done with tensioner and water pump then get this done just incase its anything to do with that

You say its not the fan belt - but check it is not too tight or slack just in case, as mine made squeeking noises in old car because it was too tight.

I take it you have actually narrowed in down to the engine bay? if not check the parcel shelf as this can be prone to let of the odd squeak now and again.

Also if the brake pads are rubbing a little this can sometimes cause a squeak, and you say it disappears when you break?

Just my thoughts as had a problem like this before.

While I think of it, also check (sounds stupid I know) that the sun visors are properly clicked it - I got into someones car the other month and they said they were going to take the car to the garage because they could not put up with the squeeking any longer.... I had a good look and then heard the squeek and eventually found out it was the sun visor not clicked in properly!! :)
