Squeaky Brakes

Hi all,

I've always found this site really helpful in the past for problems I've had with my 98 Cordoba SX, so I hope someone can point me in the right direction this time.

I've noticed yesterday and today that's theirs a slight screeching sound coming from rear brake or brakes. I say that as I've only heard it from the driver side rear brake as I can't hear the other side from in the car.

Could this be the onset of bearing problems or could it be the ridicolus amount of rain we've had in the last couple of days. It is parked outside in the elements most of the time.

It does'nt happen everytime I brake. The handbrake makes a screeching noise as well when it's held on certain inclines. I have'nt heard that all the time.

I also have a kind of muffled grinding noise from the front brakes as well under braking.

Again this is more noticable in damp and cold conditions, but wondering if it's more than that.

Could it be the rear suspension, as the rubber in the mounts I've been told by my dealer has warped a bit and that sometimes squeaks, but it definately sounds like the brakes.

My next service is'nt until March. Are all these something I should listen out for and do something about, or just wait till the service?

Thanks for listening

Cheers

There's no F in Quality..
difficult to say, without actually listening to the car mate....

front brake squeel 'could' be just the pads moving, if so the squeel can be cured with Copper grease on the backs of the pads....

sounds like your handbrake needs adjusting, as the squeeling from the rear brakes is due to the shoes not gripping enough when on an incline.....

reckon you need all your brakes chacking, and servicing etc.

where abouts are you based?

Squeky Brakes

Hi Andj

The squeel doesn't happen all the time. I don't know if it's because of all the rain and cold we've had recently, as my car is parked on the street.

Should I wait till the service in March, or if it gets more severe take it in before?

Many thanks

Steve

well now thats its winter a few garages offer things like "Winter brake tests" for not alot of cash, just whip the car into a garage with said promotion and say that your concerned for your safty and that you think you'll die next time you hit the breaks. im sure they will tell you whats up and it'll most likey be cheepper than a service!
