might be track rod ends, had a similiar problem on my Mk2. Dealer said it was water pump but it never was, slight incorrect diagnosis! Went to another garage who thought it was steering. Tried to anti friction steering fluid but that didnt work so worked out it was track rod ends that needed replacing.
rite it is still doin it. now even worse. i can be just goin ina straight line and its really loud. its embarrassing cos everyone looks at the car and it sounds crap. as soon as i slightly touch brakes it stops.
I had a loud screaching from my car a few months back. just all of a sudden came on, was screaching its tits off REAL loud. Turned out it was some kind of plate rubbing against the brake disc!

sounds nothing to do with steering, i bet thats either rust on the edge of the discs, or there is a stone stuck inbetween the pads and the discs. give them a check over, and if poss. a clean with brake cleaner then try braking and listening for any scoring on the discs.
Ive notied the squeaking, ive only had the car about 2 weeks now and love the car apart from the annoying squeaking. sounds like there is a squeak coming from the back and also the front and gets louder when turning right , doesnt sound like any thing from the engine, sounds like the dash or sommmot behind it lol its doing ma head in:|, thought i waz the clove box and sprayed some wd40 on the handle didnt stop the squeaking 
no this is definatly not form the interior. booked it in for service and told them its doin it, hopefully they can sort it
