square front plate

Hi all, Had a quick look round and couldn't find anything on this.

My last Cupra R had a front square plate that looked the dogs, however the new one does not, On asking the dealer if it was possible to fix a square one on he said its not legal. On both my FTO's I have square plates front and rear and never ever been pulled up on it.

Can anyone clarify this for me?

Thanks in advance

my mate works at a jap import place and i asked him the same question he said if theres space for a normal plate then it should have one
however if you want one its up to you
and if you get a picky :cop:

i had square plates on the impreza, although got pulled over quite a lot, never for dodgy number plates.

the legal obligations I know of are:
spacing must be of A123 ABC or AB 55 ABC and,
correct me if i'm wrong, the letters have to be 76mm high, and in an asymmetric font (ie. one where the letters are the same thickness the whole way round).
also, in order to get number plates made these days, you have to take v5 registration docs, insurance certificate, drivers licence, proof of address, birth certificate, yesterday's leftovers from dinner, a stool sample from a neighbours dog, and a VAT receipt from a reputable high street store for some underwear

other manufacturers of 4x4's have square plates, so I can't imagine there is a legal thing in having them.

theres the law - see whatcha think...
I cant see any reason why not, although i thought there was something stopping people doing it.

yeah, the price of new plates these days!!!!!

and apart from the few stylists and the odd chav, no-one else has the inclination of changing them.

PS, loads of Taxis (jag's, rover 75's, E-class merc's) in kent have square rear plates, with the "hackney licence" alongside
