Speedo - intermittant fault

Done a search and can't find an Alhambra specific answer to this one!

My speedo is only working intermittantly, I'm guessing its the sensor, or a loose connection to the sensor (it comes and goes when i drive over bumps and seems worse when it's raining...).

Does anyone know where the sensor is, and how to get to it?

From looking at the Galaxy manual, speed sensor appears to be front right of engine just behind the starter motor.

Hope this helps

Thanks for the replys!

I have now changed the sensor, which unfortunately made no difference. I have spoken to a mechanic who thinks that it is the part inside the gear box that the sensor 'sences'. Apparently there is a nylon ring with a metal ring in it attached to the crown gear (hope I'm getting these terms right... out of my depth!). He thinks that this has either moved or become detached.

The solution... strip down the gear box and have a look (about £900), or leave it and wait untill the clutch needs doing when the gearbox has to be taken off anyway. I can live without a speedo for that price!

Annoying thing is that it effects the wipers though... since they think the car is perminantly stationary they are always on a 'go slow'.... still should keep the mileage down :funk: :)

The mechanic was not actually a seat one... he did plug it in though and it came up with a weak signal from the sensor. He also spoke a gear box specialist and between them they arrived at the answer above... I would trust what he is saying... but don't intend to get the gear box stripped down to prove him right!!

I would not, on the other hand, believe a word the local seat dealer 'specialists' tell me... but that's another story!:cartman:

I don't think my Alhambra has hub sensors, i would assume that if it was one of those playing up it would effect the ABS...
