Can anyone tell me what speakers are in the FR, IE size (diameter) and where they are located in the car. I will be using the standard head unit but will use a line driver to fit a couple of amp's.

Thanks in advance.

Plenty of threads on this i got 4 17" Pioneer speakers with some spacers put in, the speakers are easy to get too unless you want to get component ones i think... i dont know much about ICE but just changing the speakers represents a massive improvement!

well I am confident I dont want to be fitting 17'' speakers to my doors.

It seems a common thought on here is to post do a search or 'been covered many times before'

After doing the search I still have no idea if the speakers in the leon are just 4 full range speakers, or if there are tweeters in the doors front and back. If there are tweeters what size are they? For the front and rear speakers what mounting depth are they?

cheers

The standard speakers are cheap 16.5cm 2 way components. The main driver is in the door pocket. This is easily removed by locating the slot to pry it off with a screw driver. The slot is at about the 7.30 position.

As far as fitting new 16.5cm speakers in the door goes. One option is to buy the Autoleads Mk4 Golf speaker adapter and cutting off the lip so it fits (part no. SAK-3103) or if you're pulling the door apart a proper wooden baffle may be a more suitable solution.

Unfortunately the tweeters are a bit of a pain. I believe they are glued into the door next to the door handle. To remove these the door card must come off.
I've yet to find a write up on how to do this, but will do it myself when I get the replacement audio kit.

Similiarly to you MatG I intend to swap out the speakers for a decent set of component speakers and a sub powered by a decent amp.

Could you suggest a suitable line driver to get the speaker level output to low level. I've seen a few options, but not really sure which is the best way to go to ensure the best sound quality.

Cheers,

Dash

Polker thanks for the info exactly what I was looking for!

I will build my own adaptors out of ply but good to know the Mk4 golf ones fit as I have some in the garage that I used as templates for the ply ones I made.

As for line drivers there are few out there that are good. The alpine ones are ok and cheap model - Alpine 4311 (2 channel)

or for better sound quailty and a better set up you could go for these:

JL audio Cleansweep

or The Rockford 360

I will most likely go for the JL for ease of use and sound quailty :)
