Spare wheel slot

Hi there

I'm in the process of buying a Seat Altea 1.9 TDI to replace my aging Honda Shuttle (aka chilli wagon). The Altea looks a good size and i was impressed with how it accelerated against my current car. Also i'm not going to miss the 25mpg i get out of the Honda

It's a pretty snazzy car and i love it and i'm collecting on Wednesday.

I looked at the spare wheel and it seems to come with a space saver... which i hate.
We do lots of markets and the thought of having a puncture and then trying to find a local garage in the middle of nowhere does not exactly thrill me.

I was wondering if there is enough space for a full size spare wheel?

My wife has a Skoda fabia and that came with a puncture repair kit which we immediately swapped for a full size spare.

The model is a Stylance and it comes with 16" alloys.

Thanks for any replies :)

I thought the same but the donut looks quite flush as it is so I doubt it will fit the 205/55/16

I recently bought another 1.9 stylance I tell you what I missed the pd punch! My father had one of my old alloys from my previous altea again 16 inch wheel and it don't sit flush in the boot. You are lucky you even have a space saver as most car companies these days have got rid of them.

It'll certainly fit in there, but you'll need to use the 'false floor' all the time to have it out of the way. Otherwise it will not be flush with the space saver wheelhousing as others note.

I am not familiar with the 'false floor'

I actually have the original steelies as I upgraded to a set coming from an A4 with brand new tyres.

If there is trick to fit a full size please let me know how to do it.

Thanks!

if you search on the forum for "altea false boot floor" you'll find a whole thread on it with pictures :D

You may be missing the section that folds across to make the boot level with the lip of the boot. Useful if you have something particularly heavy and to make the boot floor totally level with the folded seats.

Hiya...

Sorry being thick

On this posting :

Is the Honda also 5x112?

What does the 112 mean?

The Honda spare is a 205/55/15 rather than a 16.
It looks like it should fit. I'd rather use that than a crappy spacesaver should i get a puncture in the middle of nowhere.

The alternative is to buy a new Seat Altea 16 inch wheel and tyre which i can use as a spare. Although from the comments above that might not fit in the spare wheel hole.

Thanks for that. My shuttle has 5 lug wheels but they are a slightly different size 205/65r15. I'm not sure about having wheel wheels which are 16" and one which is 15" should I have a puncture.

I ended up removing the space saver and I've just bought a full size 16" altea wheel and tyre.

Spacesaver spares use a higher profile tyre to make the rolling radius broadly the same as the original wheel/tyre combination. They very specifically say that they are a get-you-moving spare only, not to exceed 50 mph or 50 miles of running.. The ABS will be unreliable and all the derived functions as well, as they all rely on detecting differences in wheel rotation speed between the corners of the car.

My Oldman used 1 of my spare 16 inch alloys but it sticks up too much above floor level so is looking into buying a space saver.
