Hi,

I was cleaning out the boot of my Ibiza and realised that the spare tyres size if 175. I am sure the sales brochure stated it was a full size, which I would have assumed would be 215, am I missing something here?

Cheers

Full size will be with regards to the diamater of the wheel and not the width. In other words its not a silly little space saver that makes your car drive ****-eyed.

Well yea its odd, it a full sized wheel but they are all 14" so it is a proper tyre but its classed a spacesaver as it smaller than the normal wheels.

Can someone confirm the exact size of the spare wheel + tyre that you get in a Mk5?

Girlfriend has had an Ecomotive, and they only come with the tyre sealant/compressor. I want to find a spare wheel + tookit asap.

Same with me, i need to get one because i dont want to be stuck on the A14 in rush hour trying to fill the tyre with some rubbish gel.

If you read the blurb about the Ecomotive it explains removing the spare wheel is just one of the many weight saving measures carried out, to enable it to acheive such an impressive economy.

The spare wheel in my sport is a 185/60 15 which has a diameter of 603mm which is close enough to the 600mm diameter of the standard 215/45 16's not to have any significant effect on driving the car, as opposed to a "space saver" which when fitted you need to limit your speed to 50mph.

I personally don't have any problem with the spare wheel being slightly narrower than the original, in normal use you are unlikely to notice any difference at all.

No I don’t as long as it gets me home, even though my golf was full size meant that I could rotate them easier. Makes sense to take it out for the eco purposes but I get such good fuel economy I am not that fussed adding a little bit of weight. I have saved 500 pound already over 6000 miles just on fuel, forgetting the fact that its not going to have the same maintenance costs and zero tax. :)

I think the weight of a spare is worth lugging about, I've had a piece of steel 'slice' a tyre on a busy dual carraigeway. Didn't fancy stopping in a live lane so scrapped the tyre by driving on it until I could get off and put the spare on.

185/60/15 is what the eco is fitted with on it's alloys, so I'll aim to get one from another Ibiza or Fabia/Polo.

I 'assume' they'll all the same PCD 5x100?
