Spare Oil

Just picked up my FR TDi a few days ago and remembered when I bought my Golf, I also got a VW bag with a bottle of oil in the boot. Are you supposed to get this with the Leon? Also, does the Leon have a low oil level warning like the Golf?

Welcome to SCN, Yoggo.
No bottle of oil with the Leon I'm afraid. We are VW's poorer relations!
There are low level warning lights for coolant, washer fluid and fuel but not for oil.
There is only a low oil pressure warning light and some people mistakenly use this as a warning for low oil level. Please do not copy them. Check the oil level with the dipstick on a regular basis. I hope you enjoy the FR tdi.

True we are that, but I'm laughing all the way to the bank with the £1000's I saved over getting an equivalent Golf.

In fact with the money I saved over getting a Golf I could buy over 300 bottles of oil even at £15 or whatever I paid for a litre of it from Halfords.

The washer fluid warning appears only to be on Leons with Xenon headlights fitted.

Sorry, phil3012 is absolutely right about the availability of the low washer fluid warning light.
Like phil3012, I also laughed all the way to the bank as I added up the cost of a Golf GTi plus extras. Does anybody buy a standard Golf GTi? Not unless they have nerves of steel and strong willpower, in the face of a barrage of sales talk from a VW salesman who is keen to earn even more commission.

You had the same exprience as me then at the VW dealer...

Whenever they got one in the showroom it was a DSG with most of the extras on at a sticker price of £27,000.

Build to order was 12 weeks and it was a case of "you need this, that and the other on it, or you'll never resell it".

I fancied white, the dealers response was "in that case you'll need the 18" wheels at £400 extra or it will look c**p" (even though they are the same wheel, just bigger.

Not quite the same wheel, Phil... The 18's are milled and lacquered with a darker metallic grey paint in the circle bits...

They are, in fact, far prettier than the standard 17's... And I would agree whole-heartedly with your VW salesman. A GTI without the 18's looks cheap...

Cheers for the reply guys.

Can you get a fancy Seat bag to put the oil bottle in? The VW one was quite good, it had a velcro back so wouldn't fly around in the boot and also came with some pouring funnels and gloves.

I'm enjoying the FR, 30 BHP extra is quite noticable but so is the poor fuel consumption at the moment (I was getting 47-52 mpg on the Golf, only 33-37 in the Seat)

Also, getting a funny burning smell every now and again but still v. low mileage (less than 200) so I assume its just bedding in some bits!

You were doing well in the Golf, mine averages low 40's, but I do have the low oil warning which is good as its been caught short a few time. Its the only car I've ever had to carry oil with me. However the Golf doesn't get the windscreen washer warning either :( as for all the rubbish about speccing a car, buy a basic one, it might not be as desirable but you won't lose as much they will still offer you the same amount, my 22k golf is worth the same as if i'd got the standard one and paid 17k

I had a burnign smell couple of times when it was brand new - went away after bout 500 miles

If your buying oil make sure you get the long life stuff - not cheap £15 for a litre.
