Sparco Brakes for LCR 225

Hi all...

Need new front pads and discs and a tuning shop near me can only get brakes by Sparco. To be honest I've searched around and found zero reviews on Sparco brakes for the LCR and Im worried they might not be as good as others that have been mentioned in these forums. This shop is charging me 440 Euros for a pair of drillled & slotted front Sparco discs and 1 pair of front pads (I assume the pads are Sparco too.), fitted. Oh I live in Gibraltar, next to Spain which is where I was planning to get them from.

Anyway... I really need the new brakes 'pronto' cause my pads are totally worn and the discs are getting all scratched up like some old vinyl. The car has done 20,000.00 Kms. (aprox 12k miles i think). Thats not very long lasting brakes if u ask me, perhaps the mediterranean climate over here has something to do with it?

There is always the possibility that the brakes on the standard car are softer to give you a good feeling about the car from the start but the might not last as long as normal brakes...just a thought
If you take the plunge you might find the new Ferredo DS2500's

Say he is charging £60 for fitting?

£250 for discs and pads....doesnt seem too bad?

Never heard of Sparco brakes

Ferodo DS2500 pads are well worth a try.

I never knew sparco did brakes discs either, but there listed on www.sparco.it

Never heard of anyone having them on an LCR either

I'm happy with my grooved brembo's and ferodo DS2500

Hi again and thanks for the feedback...

I must say, those DS2500 pads by Ferodo are so talked about here, I may just get me a pair. Perhaps the Sparco pads are decent too?

The Sparco Brakes are so easy for me to purchase from this nearby shop that I mentioned, (which is sort of an advantage), but I have not found any reviews about Sparco brakes and I'm concerned they might not be as good as other brands you have all spoken about in these forums... I went to www.sparco.it and of course it's all in Italian.

Does anyone reckon that Sparco would be in anyway inferior than the other mentioned brands for the LCR? Perhaps better? (Any Sparco pros out there?...hehehe)

The Ferrodo are known, tried and tested on track and street by various forum members and I haven't seen a bad review.

So it's up to you whether you want to take the risk on the Sparco's? not the kind of thing you want to take too much of a risk on really though

Sparco have a good name for other bits and pieces but then so did Mintex (or so I thought) and some of their pads have had shocking reviews on here

10-12K miles?

I've had my front pads for 16K miles and there's still loads of pad left.

Did spanish LCR's come with 323mm discs and brembos or the LC 312mm disc? Thought the 323 brembo was just for British market?

I was just goin to make the same point - be careful what you order. Gibraltan (?) LCR's might be UK spec, they might be Continental Spec

agreed, the brembos were an option for the LCR on the continent, so care needs to be taken when ordering, as does when assessing prices!

do you have brembo brakes? what size are your alloys?
(17" non brembo, 18" most likely brembo).

My vehicle was the very last Leon Cupra R to come from the main factory in Barcelona, I posted this back in 2005 when i first got the beast.

It has 18" factory alloys and 4-pot brembo calipers, with standard discs that it also came with, but im honestly not sure if they are 323 or 312, they look pretty big to me.

As I have 18" alloys, could I not just go for 323's anyway?

I never noticed any differences with UK spec LCR's and the one I exported from Spain to Gibraltar. Of course there is that little exception of the fact the steering wheel is slightly on the other side! (hehehe).

There were, however differences with the cupra, between the UK 180hp 'Top Sport' and the Spanish 180hp equivalent named 'FR' (Formula Racing). Spain never called it Top Sport and there were differences cause my best mate bought one, which was the Top Sport and his cousin purchased the Spanish version was the FR.

One curious thing is that the FR's came standard with cruise control, but my mates Top Sport did not and furthermore, my LCR does not have it either. Did the UK LCR's come standard with cruise control? I thought it wasn’t standard cause in a car like the LCR with the race like specs it was thought that the drivers would constantly be changing speeds so it would not be necessary... Id say to that - better to have it and turn it off when you don’t want to use it! (Sorry to side-track from the original topic).

if you have brembos then you have the 323mm disks.
312 are the ordinary cupra brakes.

10-12K miles?

I've had my front pads for 16K miles and there's still loads of pad left.

I had mine changed between 11-12k miles. The outside pads only had about 1mm of friction material left, the inside pads were down to the backing plates. I questioned the technician (as I've never worn out pads that quickly on previous cars!) and I was told it was quite normal.

I did a quick search on here and found that 10-12k appears to be 'the norm'.

Do you do a lot of motorway driving?
