i want spanish number plates. have heard many a time from people that have spoke to the dvla and been told they are legal on cars pre 2001 as this is when the law changed and the plates had to have a bs mark or something along those lines. cant find anything about this on the dvla's site though. would be usful to have a printout from their site about this and keep it in the glovebox just incase i got any hassle.

u refering to getting the spanish flag at the left hand side with the banded lettering (E band)

if so - illegal

basically ur telling people your car is from spain (technically it is, but factory only) police might try seeing it as you've driven from spain etc

same with german D banding.

The flag is usually not an issue. It's normally the raised text that features on German plates, or the idiots that put yellow plates on front and back. The cameras have issues reading them. Go for it if you want a £30 on the spot fine.

Some coppers will not know the law and let you get a way with it, an arsey copper may pull your pants down though. Some poeple put velcro on their jerry plates and attach the legal plates on to that, over the jerry ones. That way, if you get pulled, you say sorry Mr copper, my real plates are in the car, just been to a show..... Doesn't always work.

My gf has just put new plates on her car. UK spec with a black Seat badge on the LHS. Goes well with the black car tbh.

Funny thing was, the website didn't ask for proof of addy, via v5, like they are supposed to. They need to put the post code on the plate or something.

They don't have to as long as they are for 'show use only'
which basically means you can get any plate you want! I bet on that website it states for show use only!

I've been followed by plenty of Feds with my german ones on, and it got thru the MoT with them on.

As above, when I was buying them every page said they were show use only. Well... I am showing them :D
