Space Saver...

righty.... was royally pissed off when i got a puncture not long ago...

does anyone know if its possible to swap the space saver tyre with a full size? does the cavity fit one?

if so.. ideas where i can acquire one? (apart from the mk2 thats next to mine in the carpark :p )

IIRC, the cavity is large enough diameter to take a full size wheel & tyre, but not deep enough - so the carpet won't sit right.

Back in the days of the mk2 Golf, VW used to supply GTI's with space savers, but Drivers - which had the same width wheels & tyres - with full size steelies, and a boot carpet with a lump to accomodate the wider wheel/tyre. Made the boot an absolute b@stard to pack efficiently...

Mk3 Ibiza Cupra R's also had a full size spare - 'cos a space saver wouldn't fit over the front brakes. From memory, the boot carpet has a hump to clear the wider wheel/tyre. If you're really bothered about having a boot carpet that sits correctly, this may be an avenue worth investigating...
