Space saver tyre and wheel / Standard equipment ?

Hi
At the start of April I placed an order for a Seat Altea XL 1.6TDI 105 SE 5D DSG, in Luna Grey, one of the things I checked was did the car come with a spare wheel. The salesman explained the car would come with a space saver tyre and wheel, demonstrated one fitted in the boot of a Altea in the show room and pointed out the item was standard equipment on the SE and was listed as such in the November 10 brochure.

In the middle of July we picked up the car and we were told the car had gone from a model year 10 to a model year 11. The salesman now offered us a brochure dated June 11 to look at. I noted a space saving spare wheel was still as standard and now had a tyre repair kit as well. The colour of the car looked like Ice Silver (CODE p5p5). The colour code listed in the boot is LX7W !

Unfortunately on inspection the car only had a tyre repair kit, despite a space saving spare wheel being listed as standard fitting. The salesman agreed that according to the 2010/2011 brochures one should be fitted, but most cars had been arriving from Seat with just a tyre repair kit fitted. The salesman offered to try and supply a space saving spare wheel the cost to be Seat’s or the Dealers.

A week later I contacted Seat customer support and was informed space saving spare wheels were in very sort supply (as in they had none) and the factory was sending out cars with tyre repair kits to keep production going. Once space saving spare wheels were available our dealer would contact us to have one fitted.

Three weeks later I again contacted Seat customer support and was now informed the space saving spare wheels are still unavailable and Seat had now made the decision not to supply them to dealers to fit to cars as those cars would now have to make do with the tyre repair kit. The lady then pointed out Seat reserves the right to make changes to the specifications and colours without notice.

Questions I have are:
Should the car have been delivered with a space saving spare and tyre repair kit fitted as listed in June 11 brochure?
Am I now dependent on the good will of the dealer to supply a space saving spare and tyre, jack and other bits?
What colour car have I got, the colour code LX7W is not listed in 2010/2011 brochures?
How can I tell what model year Altea I have?
Thanks in advance.

Note: Other than the above the car has been a real hit with the family, the duel air con has stopped the wife complaining I have it set to cold. The DSG 7 speed gear box is brilliant, my last car was a Zafira 2.2 Auto which averaged 26mpg, so far the Altea has managed 43mpg.

Don't bother with Seat customer service. Your contract is with the supplying dealer. He sold you a car which he agrees should have a spare wheel, and the sale was on the assumption that a spare wheel would be supplied. Irrespective of Seat not being able to supply one for whatever reason, your dealer is contractually obliged to get you one. Badger the dealer (ignore Seat UK or customer service) until they supply you with one. Alternatively, tell them you'll source one yourself and they can discount you the cost.

Nonsense!!

David from SERE has just supplied me with a spacesaver direct from Seat. Fortunately I happened to be in Belfast otherwise the postage would've been a bit pricey

I had the same issue with my XL - delivered early July. I am fairly sure that I was reassured it would have a spacesaver wheel, but stupidly did not insist that it was written into the deal, so when it was delivered with a pot of rubber I wasn't in quite the same bargaining position that you are. Hence, I bought a spacesaver. To reaffirm what's already been said, your contract is with the main dealer NOT seat uk. Your dealer should be pressed to supply you with the spacesaver. You purchased the vehicle relying upon the salesman's representations that you'd get a spacesaver, so make sure you do!

I would add that it's not just the tyre you need. I found that as i'd only got the rubber goo kit, I didn't get a jack, 10/13 spanner or tyre iron so you'll be needing those bits also. List price for all that is well over £200. I didn't fancy a part-worn space saver, but sourced the tools from a scrappy.

my car was a second hand buy but no space saver just the gunk & the pump , pump is actually very good had a nail in a tyre a few weeks ago pumper it up double quick . but got an unused space saver of ebay for 25 & a insert with jack etc for 30 , so that was a bit better than 200

as the space saver was mentioned in the sale then the sale of goods act says you should have one so threaten em with that

Hi

Dealer says they have placed a large order with Seat/VW for space saver tyres/wheels, as most cars arriving from Seat only have a can of tire-sealant fittted.

Dealers lie. Dealers lie to get you to think it's someone else who's letting you down. Ignore their lies about placing a large order, as all you're interested in is a single order for yourself. Stick at them every day until you get what you want. In fact, tell them to rob one out of another car (either new or second hand) to get you going while they search for a mythical large order from Seat.

I have an 11 plate Altea XL courtesy car at the moment and this doesn't have a spare just the pump and foam. What i dont get is that other than saving on the wheel theres no advantage space wise. You would think that there would at least be some extra storage space but no they have fitted a foam insert instead of the wheel

Hi

After 10 weeks we got our new space saver wheel and all the kit that goes with it. Not from the parts dept, but out of the back of a used Altea on the dealers forcourt. Its never been used so is as new. :)

Needed a letter ;)

Dealer says all Altea's coming from the factory just have a can of tyre sealant, this with the brochure still saying a space saver spare wheel is standard fittment.

The info on the wheel/tyre is:
60 PSI
125/70
R16
96M
