Hi Folks, going to stick some Focal's 165 KP's in the doors of my Ibiza2004 (three door). Do I need to do some sound deadening. If so, what is the material called and how is it applied?

I will most likely also move the current front speakers to the back. I saw that there is a lot of space in the back, should I fill that up with something? I previously had the Alana SS in the car so the front speakers are actually pretty good.

Thanks folks, funboy

hi funboy

You can add some sound deadening material to the doors and also other panels aswell. There are a load of different materials available, from Dynamat, Brown Bread, Bodyline which all are on a roll that you basiclaly stick to the metal on the doors. There is also something called sludge by Second Skin which is a.. er.... sludge that you paint onto the panels and works just aswell (or better if applied thick). Have a look here..

All sorts of different applications.

This is the one most used nowadays and is very well recommended

The space in the back? What do you wanna fill it with? What ideas do you have? Focals are lovel comps and ideally you need to have the soundstage from the front, so no need for rear speakers at all, apart from a subwoofer or so.

What other equipment do you currently have?

Hey Baz1, I've a Kenwood KDC-W7534U HU in there. That is it at the moment, still looking for an amp, I am looking at these:

Alpine MRP-F550:

Blaupunkt VA4100:

JBL GTO 75.4:

Crunch GTR 350.4:

Just don't know which one. About the back, well, I was thinking about just sticking the current front speakers in the back and I was thinking because there is so much room behind the back speakers, that I would need to fill it up with some sound deading stuff..?

Also just realized that I will have a problem getting my focals into the front doors :(

Any tips are greatly appreciated.

thanks Icecavern, now I just have to find a place that sells it in Switzerland. Is it like a foil to stick onto the sides of the doors, etc? What do you all in the UK pay for the meter squared?

This is what I have found so far, but in Austria and with quite a price tag:

Here's something I could get in Switzerland, think it could work?

it would work but may not be as good as dynamat and funboy are you looking for decent quality sound? if so it would be out of the top 2 maybe 3 but not bottom one (for decent sound quality) look more at the RMS power output instad of the max output will be a better way to tell how good the amp really is

hi RichieRich, i'm definitely going for good quality sound and not just loud and lots of bass. I'll either get he Alpine or the Blaupunkt one. Thanks for the info.

I'll have to see what I can do for the sound deadening, would prefer to buy in Switzerland and not have to import from Austria. I'll look around some more.

thanks for the offer RichieRich, but I'm in Switzerland, don't want to do the entire import tax, etc thingy.

BTW, is there a guide or info on what/how to sound-deaden doors, etc? Do I just put the entire sheet on the door or do I put small pieces at different locations?

either way but the best way is to do the entire door... behind cables (to stop viabrations) etc.. but it costs more of course.. i just put it were it needs it.. behind the speaker and adapter and holding my crossover in place...
